Supply and fit timers for aircon units and immersion heaters. Timers are 15 min, 30 mins and 1 hour controlled. £50.00 per unit. I have just had them fitted in my villa and my bills are reduced. They automatically switch off after setting ie. if you have set them at 15 mins they switch off after the 15 mins.

(peace of mind).

I have one fitted on my immersion heater, as I have left the immersion a number of times and with the water being cut off at random, I have burnt out the element. If anyone is interested I can give you a number to order same. email margaret.hushon@kier.co.uk

How many timers in total have you fitted?

What's it like in August sleeping in a bedroom where the a/c cuts off every 15mins? Sweaty? Not much sleep?

Please excuse my sarcasm, but I just don't see this as practical.

I thought a/c units had timers on them anyway. How do these timers work on a/c units ,as I thought once the power goes off the a/c goes off, but for good not coming on again. Excuse my ignorance...!!!! No comments thanks.

The timer should fit in place of your switch as long as the switch is not directly next to another switch as the timer I have for my Central heating/water (inwinter of coures) is about 6 mm wider than a normal switch. But its a time clock so you can set it for however long or short a time and to come on and go off any time of day up to 16 times

Immersion heaters will also switch thenselves off via a thermostat when the water gets to the set tempreature.

I have bought my timers in UK (as described in sola-air.com but took a lot of 'googling' to track down the parent company and then local supplier) and fitted them on all my 6 aircon units (cost in UK approx £20 incl VAT). I went for the RB-2 variant.

15 min / 30 min / 1 hour / 2 hour timing available. Fitted them myself and have had trouble free use since April. I rent and have cut my electricity costs by 55%.

2 hour time slot for aircon as you go to bed is fine (and hey..if you wake up a little hot in the middle of the night just reset and go back to sleep!!).

Before anyone asks I can't bring any more out (I have friends who've ordered a few more / baggage allowance tight) but they can be ordered through electrical product specialists in UK and brought out.

Message 8. Tradepoint are a part of B&Q, usually at the end of a B&Q store, you do need a radepoint card tho' or know someone who has. Alternatively try screwfix (also owned by B&Q I believe) a couple of quid more.

Message 9, I haven't got these on my aircons, just on the immersion so can't comment how good or bad they are.

As far as the card meters go, I am sure they are a good idea and will def' save owners renting out some money but the only reason I do not like them is i've seen a few reviews on some of the holiday websites of people that have rented properties with these things and they thought they were a total pain. One that I read said they didn't use the electric much coz it was costing them a fortune and they got totally paranoid about switching the aircon on. Brilliant you might say as does the trick and saves money, BUT, this person said they would never rent that property again, so kiss goodbye to any repeat business.

cont'd,

far better imo to charge an extra fiver a day up front during the hotter and colder months and this would cover most if not all of the electric usage anyway. At least your renter has paid it up front and you also get extra payment to cover the leccy.

The thought of the A/C going off in the bedroom at night in the heat we have had is frightening, the minute you switch it off the room gets hot again, would rather have a bigger bill and be comfortable

And why would you have the immersion on if you have solar panels the water is hot enough all day long, not put mine on for months

you set the meter to your own choice then its up to the renter if he wants to go out all day and leave it on as he will be paying for it you dont have to set it to rip people off just to cover the bill they are running up any higher is ripping the customer off

Would not rely on the ones in TRNC.

I believe for immersions the Horstman electric saver to be the best solution as it can not be left in on mode. As for air con I can appreciate that if you are renting out it is a problem, otherwise have it on 23/24 degrees and let it switch off to fan only in the morning when if the outside air is cooler. I do not like air con but you have to be comfortable to sleep.

Replay to millzer Q10

Tradepoint is only the till wher you pay fot thing with your B&Q trade card thats what through me a Trade card which I have, but all that gets you is a 45 paying account as a company we find it helps cash flow. But thats the only differance. If I am wrong I appoloise but thats the only type of trade card I am awaire of. Any items on sale at B&Q can be bought by joe public

Hi milzer,

10 & 11

The meters we supply are very easy to operate and not only warn you of low credit, they also grant you emergency credit when a new card is not immediately available. We also wire them up so that they only meter the a/c and water heater circuits, so that all other circuits: lights, TV, fridge, water pump, pool etc., continue to operate without credit.

There is no need to set the tariff on the meter at an excessively high rate, as long as you cover some or all of the cost of the electricity used on the a/c.

I take on board your comments about charging extra for electricity during peak summer, but 5 pounds a day woulldn't cover the cost of leaving all the a/c on all day/night with windows/doors open, as I have seen some do. I have also seen the Kib Tek bills and they are scary. People marketing their villas want to keep the weekly rental as low as poss to remain competitive and adding 35 quid a week would do the opposite. Give people choice and they will save t

I have had 2 card meters fitted to control my 5 A/C's this year with the unit charge rate set at what the electricity costs, so I am not making money out of it. We pre load in a VERY generous "credit" on each meter for each rental and advise guests that if they use them "sensibly" the credit will easily last for their holiday. However if they leave them on 24/7, then they are paying for it not me! It has worked well and we have only had to "sell" one extra £20 card this whole summer.

We worked out by using these meters that the A/C's cost around 50p an hour to run, we have 5 A/C's so that is £2.50ph, up to £60p day, £420p week. We had a £750 elec bill for August last year, which is why we had these installed.

Hi chezzi,

Glad to hear your meters are doing the trick. The other meters we fitted have also had similar results.

The other villa owners are also leaving a fair amount of credit on the meter and the guests are only paying for the "extra".
