Any suggestions on who can replace a glass in a wing mirror please? Any local garage do this or do I have to go back to the main dealer?

Hey Waddo,

Usually if you go to a car dealer, parts are more expensive....of coruse this does depend on what make and model your car is.

But I do recommend most garages in central Girne

Many thanks. The return to the dealer option is the very last option for sure!! I can just imagine the cost of the import from UK, plus the tax, plus any stopag tax they can stick on, then the cost of the fitting and the KDV and then of course it will be priced in dollars so I would have the exchange rate to pay back to sterling then into Lira - been there, done that. No wonder the local garages do a good trade!

Your point on exchange rates is surprisingly incorrect. Exchange shops will directly change say, £ to $ direct without going into Lira and out again avoiding the buy/sell differential, at the days rate. The banks do this so avoid them! They are also happy to get shot of less traded currencies, for example Aussie $'s.

What make is the car?

Most of the car makers have a main dealer in the South - we've dealt with the Mitsubishi one for instance, who couldn't be more helpful, to the point of NOT CHARGING (!) on a couple of occasions, even though they could see that we were from 'the North'.

Someone did say a few months ago on one of the forums (can't remember which!) that they had got someone local to replace the wing mirror glass, but my understanding at that time was that they had used ordinary flat mirror glass, not convex.

If you want the details, I'll have a trawl back through on the various forums...

But I wouldn't hesitate to ask the main dealer on the South side for help if it was me.

Keith.

Keith,

Good idea, many thanks. The Freelander year 2000 is the problem with the wing mirror. Lent it to our visitors and it got whaped by a left hand drive toyota with turkish plates on it. Pleased to say that it was not their fault and that the toyota came off worst with a completley destroyed wing mirror and mine only has a cracked glass. But as it is up for sale it is only fair that I repair the damage before it goes.

Any help welcome.

exnavalperson,

is that the chap down the 2nd road on the right past Jashan's - coming from Lapta, that is - if so, my neighbour had a couple of good jobs done by him, right price, too...

I didn't realise that he would/could tackle wing mirrors tho'!
