Hello all,

Disaster!, after launching into a flat calm my pride and joy was swept onto the back of the trailer by a 'freak' wave causing a 'bite' to be taken out of the hull. Does anyone know of someone who can repair boats?.

This, apparently, is minor gelcoat damage and has not affected the integrity of the hull but it is ugly and I am not sure what exactly constitutes 'minor'

Regards,

Scamper.

Please email off board its not a big problem but it needs doing, if the grp under the gel coat has been exposed.

Don't think Scamper can as he has only posted a dozen times.

It needs to be ascertained/checked that the fibreglass around and under the gel-coat is not 'bruised'.

Is there cracking of the gel-coat around the chip?

If so, the affected area needs to be ground out (not right through so there's a hole!) and refilled with resin/hardener mix + matting, then gel-coat.

It's best not to ignore it, because of later delamination problems.

Not having seen it, I'm only trying to suggest the remedy for a 'worst scenario' situation - it may be that you can get away with just re-gel-coating, to restore the cosmetic appearance - good luck!
