How mary of you were saddened by the recent killings of the donkeys in the Karpaz. İ have never been a very religious person but the killing of the donkeys made me think of my faith and the connection with the donkey and jesus ----school plays etc etc. and made me feel very sad. Donkeys are sacrid. If anyone is moving to Cyprus why not think about giving a donkey a home - because the Gov have withdrawn the money they contributed for their care! İf they are not shot they will die due to water shotages they say.

We dont want donkeys to be extinct do we?

Hi jokers - you're right it's very sad, but I have to say that your post did make me giggle - in the space of 45 minutes you've gone from a homicidal maniac (let's all kill peachy) to a born again christian (let's all adopt a donkey).

regards, ltd

I was very sad to hear of the donkey killings - first I heard of it. They are one

of the lovely things about the Karpaz & it won't be the same. Were they killed because they were sick? The gov. have money to waste on importing palm trees from Egypt I was told by local friend. Would love to adopt one but we already have enough grumbles about goats at TBV - but would like to finance one if pos. They brought a donkey into St. Andrew's church for the Easter

service & the kids were thrilled.

İt was a secret sniper....they dont know who killed them. I wonder if keeping a donkey in the garden is hardwork....what are their needs...and how can they be useful about the house.

Hi Pat

Yes I think it was in the Cyprus Today a couple of weeks ago about the donkey's being killed. I think they are lovely especially their really long ears, it makes them different.

yes I was very serious...nobody knows who killed the six donkeys and quote from Cyprus Today 'Mayor Mehmet Demirciler said the donkeys had not been killed by local people cos in the past they had carried water and fodder to the donkeys without help from anyone'. There was a protest at Golden Beach but not TRNC citizens are not allowed to protest. They believe its something to do with the hunters.

The south has a large donkey sanctuary near Pathos where my adopted donkey "Gigolo" lives. Do I take it that nothing similar exists in the north?

When I was working in N.Cyprus in 99/2000 I was told that they were protected

by the government & no-one could catch them anyway. It's disgusting. Am not

sentimental about them (have eaten donkey in Florence) but I can't understand

why anyone would want to kill them, but at least it's not the Belediyise is it?

They shot all the dogs at the Uni. in Famagusta & they weren't doing any harm

orangekazzi.

regarding the posting about killing donkeys in the karpas.

you state that you like donkeys, because of their long ears. does this mean that

you dont like the short eared variety.

lol!!!

There were definitely more than 6 donkeys last time I was there, are they planning to cull the others?, my God if they did this in the New Forest there would be an outcry!!

hi guys

joker the definition of culling is basically killing or removing animals to restrict the population of a certain species

for you guys who are interested in joining a active support group and you are registered on facebook the name of the group is 'save the cyprus donkey'

both turkish and greek cypriots have been joining forces to tackle this problem especially in the karpas region, a couple of weeks ago both sets of people went up to the region to commemorate the dead animals and discuss a plan of action

their is also a action group that need help this is called the 'green action group'

and the person you need to speak to is dogan sahir

people are saying the people who are killing these donkeys are farmers because they are destroying their crops because they eat anything thats green
