Does any one what the highest point is in N Cyprus and, if so, how accessible it is?

Sevili Tepe at 912 m. Above Karsiyaka. A rather steep climb up a goat track but not impossible.

The highest point I have found is 3135 feet (955.50 meter). It's where you find the late Byzantine/early Lusignan Buffavento Castle. Easy to reach with a car, but the castles itself is quite a climb on a hot day.

Sevilitepe is the highest point it is shown as being 1026 metres but some maps show a couple of metres less. See the maps on the Kyrenia Mountin Trail web site. http://www.kyreniamountaintrail.org

RE msg 5, Cyprusactive: (...) Sevilitepe is the highest point it is shown as being 1026 metres but some maps show a couple of metres less. (...)

=> You and Jetski (msg2) are right: Sevil Tepe or Seviltepe seems to be the highest point. But here some confusion begins. Look at any serious map and you'll find a different elevation! I consulted Kitchener's map (ca 1880: 946,8 meters - he's excused, I think...) and on another map (Ministry of Defence, UK, 1988) its given as 1024 meters.

=> Just out of interest, Jetski: which map did you consult? And you, Cyprusactive?

=> I'll ask the TRNC Mapping Department in Lefkosha about "their highest point" and maybe we do best to take their info as the truth..?

A bit of further reading shows us all to be wrong!

Here's what Dreghorn says.

Sevilitepe 946m (Karsiyaka)

Ilyas Tepe 1023m (Lapta).... this suprised me too as it's more a large dome than a pyramidal peak. The radio masts are on top of it.

Buffavento 955m

S'pose it's just a question of which reference source you use.

Thanks chaps. It'll be good to go up both. Although if Ilyas Tepe has radio masts does that mean it will be a restricted military site?

=> Yes. From St. Hilarion it's on your left hand - and you will see a "forbidden" sign there. Drive on to Kozan (and meet Sevili Tepe...)!
