I am undecided in what to do at Christmas, ie, either go back home or spend it in North Cyprus. Can anyone advise what Christmas is like in North Cyprus, things to do, places to go etc. I have heard a few hotels do special 2 or 3 day packages, would greatly appreciate any advice from anyone who has spent Christmas in North Cyprus.

Many thanks

Hi checkmate lots of hotels do special deals 3 or 4 days. I know Merit do and the Colony also . Check out here or cyprus today. Many restaurants do xmas lunch we certainly do. http://www.guidosbistro.com. I beleive Malpass and Savoy also do special xmas deals. Christmas is a lovely time here and in fairness the belladaisye make it special. St Andrews put on Carols and it would be what you expect. The people here respect that this is outr time as we do with Ramamdam. Have beeen here 5 years now and of course miss my family christmas but we have worj\ked each and every year and its been so lovely. To give and receive the gift of Xmas. With a name like that yo should be at our chess club evert tuesday xxx

We've spent the last six Christmases in TRNC. Once booking in at an hotel, sometimes at friends. Twice we've had family stay with us. Lot's of places do packages for 1, 2 or 3 days. Not as good as being at home in UK but not so much worse that we'd consider changing.

Christmas over here is wonderful, hotels do packages, it depends on what you are looking for,

Only thing, if you like parsnips - you can't buy them here & so called sprouts are awful

New Year is a huge celebration for Muslims. The Belediye in Girne have groups on a stage specially set up in the square, the harbour is absolutely heaving with promenaders and there's an enormous firework display at midnight. Then you can go to a Brit bar and do the Auld Land Syne thing two hours later!

Mutlu Yillar!

Christmas is just a normal day here (all the shops are open etc).

But if you book into a hotel, you'll get the Christmas spirit...... Good ones are the Merit, Sempati, and Mountain View Hotels. (Thats just from my experience).

Beware of some of the restaurants ........as they tend to hike their prices right up, and bookings are essential.

So if you want a peaceful Christmas without all the commercialism of the UK........Cyprus is cool.

Lilli

Could you let me know about your Christmas/ boxing day menu. Thx Mel melaniepartington@hotmail.com

Checkmate,

We spent our 1st Xmas at the Merit, great if you like a skinful but not for us as we had a young daughter and the place was thick with smoke. Christmas Day year 2 at the Malpas, don't think anyone told them what was expected and it was just the normal buffet, though I think they had the works in the evening. Again no good for us with a small child. Xmas 3 was spent in the UK and was fantastic, catching up with friends, shopping - wonderful for a child of course.

Happy Christmas whatever you decide.
