Thank you for your mail, "dog hater". I've blacklisted you in my mail program so your next mail(s) will bounce. But keep on trying if you like it. bttt

Forgive me, but his new humans didn't check with the Landlord first as to whether they could have a dog? It is heartbreaking to read of so many dogs on this board whose humans took on the responsibility for their lives without REALLY thinking through if they would be in NC for - say - fifteen years - failing which, do they have the moral right to take on the welfare of a helpless animal? My daughter's beloved pup last year was poisoned in Alsancak - as was its little playmate (both died) it broke her heart - something REALLY needs to be done about the dog problem..........

I feel I have to reply to this. I arrived here in April of this year with 'hopes' to stay for ever but nothing is ever 'sure' in life. I had no intention nor did I want to take on the responsibility of an pet. However one was dumped on my door-one that looked close to death- now what should I have done. I had heard that Kar could not cope and that they probabaly wouldn't take the pup in and if they did they would return it to where it was found-our front door. I could not turn my back on this poor animal and basically let it die. It was pitiful and something we don't see at home (UK). I took her in, spent money I didn't have to spare on making sure she was well fed & had all her injections c/f

and then had her spayed. When it turned out there was a chance I would have to return to the UK for months at a time I tried to find a home for her. She is a beatiful healthy well mannered dog and there must be people who are in a better position than me who could offer her a home but no-one has. So what happens to Daisy now. Well, when my time here is up so will hers be because I am not putting her on the streets. How do you think that makes me feel? Daisy picked the wrong house when she was a pup -she should have gone to those people who are already well settled here not a newby like me. So my point is I didn't have a choice or a chance to think "will I be here in 15 years time for this dog" , I just saw this poor little desperately scared pup and wanted to make her better. All I've actually done is made it worse.

The lady who took Babe already has a dog and thought it would therefore be OK to have another, the landlord will allow her to keep her present dog but not have two dogs. She is a lovely lady and has become attached to Babe. It is not ideal for him to come home as we have 3 dogs and 4 cats already but he will be safe here until someone offers him a loving home again.

Babe will be outside The Black Olive, Alsancak at 4:45 today if anyone would like to see him. Thank you all.

Redboxer - I take your point, and I would do exactly the same as you. Should I decide to spend my last days in TRNC I KNOW I will have another dog - and like you, who knows - one never can predict's one's health for instance, what if I became poorly and then wanted/needed to come back here? It is a quandry. I was really directing my comments to those that know they won't be living in TRNC for the duration, but take on a pet anyway.... There are too many dogs needing homes, and as I said - my daughter's heart was broken when her beloved pup was poisoned, and she had to bury her sweet, plump little body in a special place......she left her many good memories from her short life, but rivers of tears also. However long she lives there, she doubts she will ever take on another dog, as she couldn't bear the loss again.

Redboxer you must be devastated not being able to fnd Daisy a new home. Hopefully someone will see this post and offer her and Babe homes.

You did exactly what I would have done

I wish you well.

This is heartbreaking, and what is more heartbreaking is that someone who has decided against all odds to try and save a poor soul, but then due to circumstances has been left unable to care for the animal that trusted him/her...to admit to this and to accept the fact that this creature is now on it's own to defend for itself, is TRULY heartbreaking!! I know this sounds very harsh, but due to the circumstances, maybe it would be better to shoot it....at least it wouldn't experience poisoning or something worse....

thank you for being honest....

Thank you Irene - and all - for your comments and thoughts. I have not given up on the possibility that Daisy will find a new home. One thing is for sure she will not be put on the streets to fend for herself.

I know that all the dog lovers don't want to hear this but I would assume that the only takers you might get on the forum would be new members as the existing ones would either have a dog by now or don't want one.

Sad but true I'm afraid.

Sorry Pogle but I am just trying to be realistic, there are normally 2 or 3 posts running with dogs that need a home.

It is a sad state of affairs but I do hope that new owner does log on however we both know that within a week the same story will be ongoing for another poor beast.

Lilli, I can't exactly be SO wrong if it was only a nearly. I hope I am wrong in this case but my point wasn't about just 1 dog. You know better than most Lilly that this will go on after babe is sorted.

Sorry guys, it's just me being melancholy, I find it depressing as hell to keep reading these threads knowing that it will keep happening no matter how hard you try but it is the best that can be done for the moment so just ignore my negativity.

A massive thank you to all of you who have helped keep Babe at the top of the board. He has been re-homed today to one of our neighbours friends and will hopefully enjoy a lovely life in Catalkoy with his new owners. Good luck to all the other little doggies and cats out there looking for a loving home.
