Hi there,

We are bringing the 'in-laws' over with us next month and wondered if anyone can recommend some restaurants in / around Kyrenia and up in the Mountains around Bellapais.

Looking to impress them so hoping for decent, traditional food in a picturesque setting if possible...... for both Lunches and Evening Meals.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

hi sarahlou

loads of them and far to many to choose lol.

found a decent meal at the address and ambiance (karaolanlooooooo)

drive upto bellapais abbey and 2 lovely restraunts in the village itself ,opposite the abbey and next to "the tree of idleness" ,they will collect and deliver you locally free of charge as well .

on the west side (lapta/alsancak) cenap in alsancak village great traditional ,lemba up in lapta village is very traditional and local .cooks from very small kitchen but you sit and overlook upper lapta and watch sunset .

pub food and great evening meal on alsancak /lapta rd again is the almond village ,you can use pool there all day as well

archway restraunt off main rd think in village of zethnilik (sorry for spellings ) .

hope it helps for now

You could try Sirin Yali on the seafront in Karsiyaka (take the left hand fork at the main square and drive on down to the sea). It's great at lunchtime on Sundays and packed full of locals. Fish is their speciality but all kinds of kebabs too together with full meze.

Another great restaurant for full meze plus fish or meat is Gulers Fish Restaurant in Kervanseray. From Kyrenia drive through Karaoglanoglu and turn right immediately opposite the Stone Grill restaurant. Guler's is on the right hand side about 100 yards down. Very interesting meze here not at all like the usual tourist offerings.

Another restaurant for traditional food is the Ottoman House in Zeytinlik or my favourite Pasa Bahce (Kyrenia Tavern) in Kyrenia. From the roundabout in the "high street" head East towards the Pia Bella Hotel then turn first right and drive past the fire station. The restaurant is at the top of this road at the junction of the road that goes to The Colony. Delightful old Cypriot couple - no menu just a choice of whatever main courses have been cooked that day together with a meze. Homemade olive and cheese bread to die for. If you go during the day they have a beautiful garden in the back will probably still be inside in the evenings.

One of my favourites for lunch is Peanuts, in between the hospital and the law courts in Kyrena. Great food and views.

Hi - In Bellapais try The Abbey Bell Tower - fantastic views across the Abbey and down to the coast from the balcony, great food and lovely people. Also Kybele in the grounds of the Abbey is really very special. In the harbour go to Set Fish which is on a raised platform and they serve the daily catch (they do not freeze any of the fish). There are tons of others, but all of these make a very nice night out in the warm summer evenings. I am sure you will have a great time anyway.

Bella Vista in Bellapais. Looks like small place on right hand side going towards abbey. We nearly went passed it, then I saw the roof tce. So glad I did. Beautiful uninterrupted views from up there. Lovely food and very hospitable. Been there for both lunch and dinner, excellent. Also free pick up and drop back to hotel.

Ezic Premier is great. Very modern and trendy - drive up past the Wednesday market in Kyrenia and you will end up by the new bypass - go straight over and its over the road on right hand side.
