How do those of you that live in the North East usually get to Cyprus? I have a young niece who lives near Newcastle who wants to visit on her own for the first time next year and would like advice as to the best flight options. I guess it will probably be via Larnaca and would appreciate any tips for who best to book with.

TIA.

Jo

Hi Jo

Try these links. Just checked and Holiday Warehouse has 14 nights from 30th September, Newcastle to Larnaca for £135.

Can't go far wrong there!

Cheers

We come over often from Sunderland and usually fly from Newcastle. If we do that we fly to Paphos as my Son is in the RAF and drives us up north.

The package holiday flights from Newcastle usually only fly between May and October, so it depends when she is going. They fly to Paphos and Larnaca - If she is flying alone, this would probably be best as they are direct flights. There are people advertising transfers from Larnaca on this forum.

Failing that, we drive/train to Manchester and then fly via a Turkish airport to Ercan (often with a stop over). This can be anything up to 5 hours (so far). They are very large airports in Istanbul etc and if she is not used to flying it may put her off. I have only travelled once when we did not need to get off the plan using that route. Someone suggesting flying to Antalya and the getting a flight to Ercan - never done that so I cannot comment.

The best thing is to get a national express coach from NewCastle to Manchester, there you have a variety of flight options getting to Turkish Cyprus. Turkish Airlines offer daily flights to the TRNC via Istanbul from Manchester , or flights with Cyprus turkish Airlines where you do not have to get off the aircraft.

I used to live in Darlington and the easiest and cheapest option i have found is getting on the Manchester airport train which drops you off in the airport. This way you can book the cheapest flight into either Larnaca or Ercan.

I would agree with message 5. We live near Middlesbrough and have tried several different routes but Manchester is definitely our best option.

I just prefer driving to Stansted and getting the Pegasus flight

Thank you all very much at least now I have a few options. My niece is just 18 and has never been abroad before so is a little nervous of travelling alone.

I agree with message 8, we also live just outside Middlesbrough, flights from Newcastle are far too expensive so we do Manchester-Larnaca.

I always into and from Newcastle as my parents live in Northumberland. Thomas Cook fly direct from Newcastle to Larnaca, they aren't the most comfortable planes but the staff seem pretty friendly. Also the staff at Newcastle airport would be willing to give some assistance if your neice is nervous about flying alone. The only problem is they don't operate flights from Newcastle after the beginning of November. I paid £286 return last month but for some reason they always seem to charge more when the starting journey is from Larnaca and not Newcastle! Hope this is helpful.
