Hi we have just moved to a old house in a village near Lefke, we have major problems with small flys that bite. My husband has put up fly screens at the windows and doors but they are still in the house. I hoover them every day but they are still here.

Do they live in soil or do the little devils get through the screens.

Not a lot you can do, they are a small price to pay for living on this beautiful part of the island

If you do find a solution plese let me know our friends have lived out here for 4 years and have not solved the problem yet

Millsmum,

As they are getting through the fly screens, spray these every night and morning with a good insect repelent and also keep a plug-in going 24 hours. Hope this helps.

We have mozzy nets and they do a good job. Make sure they are fitted well at the edges and then use a good Mozzy spray. Spray the whole room and the mozzy nets about half an hour before you go to bed and you should be fine. SLEEP TIGHT and don't let the sand fly's bite!!! ;o)

They were having a good old nosh on my son, now I leave an ultra violet bug zapper on in his room an hour before bed and then all night. Seems to work better on the floor. No problems since.

Spray flyscreens with cockroach killer aerosol - spray around all window and door frames and on headboard of bed, curtains - buy and use Vape tabs and the vape liquid electronic machine - do these things and you'll be OK. See my other posts regarding this subject.

You're being bitten by the Sicilian Sandfly that comes from the Sahars and can cause Sicilian Sandfly fever - Google that and cringe!

Alternatively, buy 'Bio Kill' in 'Orphanides' in the South Nicosia.

You really need a spray chemical product which contains 'Cypermethrin' - here in Cyprus, North or South, you can only buy sprays which contain 'Permithrin', to which sandflies are becoming increasingly resistant.

Buy some oil lamps and fill with Citronella oil - again available at 'Homebase' - South Nicosia.

Spray yourselves with 'Johnson's OFF' - this contains 'Deet' - try to find the insect repellent with the highest quantiti (%) of 'Deet', such as UK camping stores.

If bitten, do you know what to use?

there is this green circle things sold in every market named ''sinek mumu-fly candle'' brands like vape... you have to light them but they smell bad.but every sort of fly dies and dont come...they have aromatic ones like orange flavourr, jasmine flavour..

remember that at this season there will be more than it should be.because the weather is getting cold so all the flies try to get indoors..

and in winter all ofthem will be gone..

If you start to get flu-like symptoms, aches and pains, headaches and extreme lethargy then do go to a doctor or hospital straight away as you probably have contracted sandfly fever. It can be treated by antibiotics if caught early or you may end up on a drip for 2 days as I did a few years ago. Nasty nasty illness that takes about 2 weeks to recover from.
