NN I don't think fly tipping will cease until the powers that be start imposing fines on the perpetrators. These people have absolutely no respect for their country or thought for anyone else but making a fast buck. What chance have we got with educating the young people to not throw their rubbish everywhere when you see grown men and women just discarding it willy nilly. I have witnessed a full carrier bag of crap being thrown from a white transit a while ago. I think litter police operating here would make thousands of lira in the first week.

well said, Mindy (#2) perhaps the next time ex-pats go out clearing up other peoples' rubbish they should dump it all on the council's doorstep. We've just come back from walking the dog near Malatya Waterfall and someone has dumped a load of rubbish there. Can't be illegal can it? Negativenick, you haven't got any pictures for NCFP at http://www.northcyprusfreepress.com have you? In fact I could make a slide-show of all the worse offenders to show that government inactivity is allowing this 'corner of earth touched by heaven' to be turned into 'not a corner of heaven left untouched by rubbish.' I think we have a title for the piece. Please send all rubbish to editor@3cyprus.com. Mal

#4 said, "it will never stop!" Everon is right, "it" will never stop - we (us, me and you) have to stop "it." I'll never be able to stop it nor will you, and "they" will never stop it, but "we" could. Mal

N/N I agree with you wholeheartedly about rubbish dumpers, but the one across from the power station might be a different kettle of fish, it is my info that this bit of land belongs to the owner of Acapulco and he is allowing tipping there, it used 2 be a lovely valley but a lot of it has now been filled in and covered with topsoil(as Mickey Lane will tell you) there were apparently plans afoot to have a filling station there but it hasn't happened as yet. Mal, will you print the photos of all the fly tippers if supplied with them, there will be some very red faces I promise you ??

I was told that the dumping opposite the power station is being done by the Acapulco Hotel who are currently in the midst of construction work. Apparently, they own the land and obviously feel they can create a tip there. It's a complete eyesore and getting worse every day.

mess 9 - is that to stop additional illegal dumping in addition to the illegal dumping that it being done at the moment ?? just because Accupulco owns the land, it does not give them the legal right to dump tonnes of their shite there, or does it ? (one rule for the locals and all that...)

I reported the mess at the waterfall last week and lo and behold there is a mass clear up going on. They also seem to be fencing an area off to make it harder to dump rubbish. A good result for once. flossie.

You don't see any notices anywhere to say it is illegal to dump and you will get fined, that's what is needed to start off with surely.
