I am led to believe that if you apply for temporary residence in TRNC you can only spend 90 days out of the country within 12 months.

Is this 90 days total for the whole year, or 90 consecutive days, similar to the 90 day visa on entering the country?

ie: if I apply for residency, can I go back and forwards from TRNC as long as I don't spend more than 90 days at a time in UK, or can I spend up to 90 days as many times as I wish within the 12 months?

why bother applying for residency ?

you get 90 days when you arrive - if you need more, nip over the border to the south and get another 90 days...

once you get your leg into the temproary residency club, it's very hard to get out....

The 'rules' have no rules unless using a slide-rule to measure up the property but that depends on the rulers using the same 'rule of thumb' as the previous rulers who ruled 'The British'!

Brins,

Sounds like a cunning plan to me matey. You have obviously been to the school of cunningness and based your thesis on fox type slyness,

I need to understand this also (planning a long away trip next year) and there seems to be no answer on the residency posts page.... I think I heard/saw somewhere that you could not be away for over 6 months, but I am far from sure.

Anyone know the answer to this

i was lead to believe if you apply for temporary residency as long as you qualify you can spend a longer time out - This i can understand as they are still getting a yearly fee. I know my friend stays out more than 90 days a year but his residency is always backdated (never here when it should be renewed). But i gather with permanent residency you are only allowed 90 days which i can understand as once you obtain this status you only pay the one fee and maybe they have had people away for a couple of years then coming back. Also if this is true another 5 to 10 years of yearly fees can be collected plus medical expenses.

My understanding is that the 90 days is the total number of days in any one year not consecutive days and also includes any trips across the border. I think the only issue with being away for more than 90 days is if you want to apply for permanent residency. If say in year 3 you are away for more than 90 then your 6 stamp requirement starts again from that year. In other words year 3 becomes year 1.

Hope this makes sense.
