olive picking and pressing 'first time picker!!!'

hi can anyone tell me when to start picking my olives and where is the best place to get them pressed and what the opening times are.

Picking normally starts around mid-October.



Try to avoid the "traditional" method of bashing or raking the branches. This is because fruit forms better on more mature (over one year old) branches and the traditional methods tend to remove these meaning you wait two years for another substantial crop (you will still have a crop the next year but it will be noticeably less).



There are olive presses in Karsiyaka and Karaoglanoglu, both signed and easy to find. Ask locally for others. Pressing is normally quite cheap but the Press retains the residue for log-forming.

The family that picks our friends olives says he will start on the 20th of the month. Remember to get loads of clear plastic to put under the trees so that any dropped will be easy to find and also a lot easier to pick up. Have fun, rather you than me as it looks a lot of hard work.

once you picked them don't take it straight to the olive pressing place, wait few days because olives will produce more oil if you leave it few days.
