I have noticed that some "Service Providers" print out "Receipts" from the computer, sign them and give them to their customers.

Official Invoices and/or Receipts all carry the official Tax Office stamp printed at the top. Its two circles one inside the other. In the middle of the small circle it has "KKTC" printed in the middle. In the outside bigger circle it has "GELIR VE VERGI DAIRESI" printed in the top half and "BELGE ONAYI" printed in the bottom half. These mean "Tax Office" and "Document Approval". Certain printing houses are authorized to print these Invoices and Receipts and have to get approval from the Tax Office in advance.

Those who give out computer printouts must have these stamps printed on top of every Invoice and Receipt and have a serial number. I think they are preprinted by the authorized printers. Otherwise my belief is that those Invoices or Receipts with no printed stamp as described above and serial number are false and unofficial. Be warned.

Just to add that Advocates must have two separate Receipts: One for the money they receive in order to pass it on to someone else and the second one for their services and the second one must show the amount of VAT on it.

The second receipt issued by Advocates for services plus VAT is all well and good but what happens when they do not provide the 'services' they have charged for? Does one get the VAT back from the tax office? It's too late for the base service charge to be refunded as that has gone on the next down payment for their latest BMW model!

Good question Richard. I would say probably the VAT was not paid to the tax office either and instead it went towards the VAT of the BMW

Perhaps everyone paying for such services should send a copy to the tax office. Be interesting.

Those with no official tax office stamp and serial numbers should be sent to the tax office. That will be real fun. Now let me see, do you have any complaints about the service you paid for but did not get the service promised? Silly me, such a complaint is non existent in TRNC. Remember, this is Paradise or as some would have you believe "A Corner of Earth Touched by Heaven". Familiar?
