I want to bring my 2 dogs over to trnc when we move & was reading the topics on transporting dogs by air (28/09/09) I was thinking of bringing them over myself as it would be cheaper but I'm worried now as it was mentioned that the tallest box cta could take is 31" & one of my dogs is 32" high. Has anyone any ideas on other ways to get my dogs over

If you can confirm a method to get them from Larnaca through the border and into quarantine we can help for taller dogs with travel on that route.

We have checked out a lot of information from everywhere and decided to drive over with the dog in January. We have worked out a route which is within EU countries until we get to Turkey,. We estimate it will take a week, so we are going to make a bit of a holiday getting there. Lots of hotels in the EU take dogs. My daughter is a Cabin Manager on the airlines and she felt that the dog would be stressed travelling in the hold. it is not sound proofed like the passengers cabin and is jet black. Also there were no guarantee on the amount of time he would be in the hold. We flew to Ercan in August and had a 5 hr stop over. If the dog had been with us then he would have been in the aircraft from 7am in Manchester and we arrived at Ercan in 1.30am.

hence our decision to drive over - he is 10 years and may not cope with the flight

Please be careful as Staffis Roths etc are now classed as dangerous and many carriers will not accept them. Best check with DEFRA xx

Hi

Thanks for the advice we are also moving over in January Katymacken. Did consider driving but our car is to old to import. Also not sure I could cope with 2 lively huskies on a long car journey. We were hoping to fly them to Turkey & then arrange bringing them over to trnc by boat or ferry but have no idea how to go about it. I must admit this is worrying me more than shipping over our belongings.

Thanks again

Mo

Hi Katy could you tell me a bit more about driving them we had thought of it but werent sure what the procedure would be when we got to Turkey I understand that the pet passport would be enough for France and Italy (do you know if you have to go to a vet when you cross from France to Italy) if you have any information or sources of information that you can share I would be grateful

As I posted on another thread my frıends brought a large dog (too big for CTA to carry as over 31 '' ) they arranged a flight (I think with Thompsons ) to Turkey - then hired a car to drive to the ferry port - where he then boarded and came to Cyprus.

Your dog must have a pet passport to enter Cyprus (all paperwork up to date) and his dog did 1 night in quarantine.

This was last week !!!! so very current info. Hope it is of some halp

It ıs illegal to cross the border in Cyprus with ANY live animal ( in either direction ) and if caught your animal i believe will be destroyed.
