Being born and bred in Scotland I have lots of happy memories of playing in the snow and sliding on the ice and then coming into a blazing coal fire with my Gran's soup bubbling away with thick slices of bread. Going to bed with ferns (ice inside the windows) on the windows and having so many good Ayrshire blankets etc on the bed you could'nt move. It was all so comforting. No central heating in those days. The heat came from the family. What are your happy family winter memories. Brings it back, life was never that bad all things considered, Baked rice with skin on top!!!!!!!!!

Come on now we all can't be in the heat. Right now it is blowing a gale, cold and winter on the doorstep. At least someone cheer me up with happy cold memories.

We are about 2 hrs from Scotland and we are all having gales. My son lives on the Isle of Lismore just off Oban and we often wonder how the island stays afloat due to the amount of rain they get. For winter wonder - just look through Glencoe in the winter - you forget the cold, wet etc and just wonder at the silly ........ walking around without a care in the world

Best memory was in 2001, we were just back from 6 weeks in Australia, the day I was due to go back to work it snowed and snowed, so much so we couldn't get the 4X4 's out of the street never mind anything else. In a street of 13 houses there were 4 nurses, Law Hospital in Carluke was shut of for 3 days because of the snow. Night shift staff had to stay on duty until a few nurses managed to walk to work! I ended up with 7 weeks away from work and a great big party in the street, I think it is the only time anyone in our street ever socialised with any of the neighbours it was great. Copious amounts of alcohol were consumed of course.
