It was a long time coming but finally a GC has let rip on NCFP. Until around 2pm you can read their racist comments and the reasons why we will not be allowing any more comments in the same vein.

Best way to deal with people like that is to ignore them!

Yes, but you just can't help asking that ultimate question - "so what solution would you suggest, acceptable to both Greek and Turkish Cypriots?" You hear so much from Cypriots about leaving them alone to solve their own problems but when you ask them "what solution" they seem to go quiet, as our commenter on http://www.northcyprusfreepress.com seems to have.

re msg 1

Do you mean the post by "YIANNIS SAVVIDES"?

I don't see it as racist... and his point about CY44 is well made.. as demonstrated by the initiation of this thread - by yourself.

Did you expect to start your website and think a disenfranchised Cypriot would not post - pointing out their perceptions..

Or are only "well wishers" allowed on the Free press site ;)! ?

Malsansak/Re Msg 1:

Re Msg 5: As incensed as you and, no doubt, others may be; to be fair, I do think Mark has good reason for criticism in this instance.

My response to Mr. Yiannis Savvides would be to query whether, or not, he voted for Makarios.

As editor of NCFP, with ultimate responsibility for what appears on the newspaper I have to make a decision about what I publish. I have decided, for example, that I will not allow child pornography or racism as both of these are illegal and to do so would surely bring the newspaper into disrepute. I might be wrong but at the moment I'm new to this and in some ways take my guidance from Cyprus44's policies. If you like I'll replace all Yiannis' comments and add that you two have requested it BUT I must publish your proper names and email addresses as I feel that hiding behind pseudonyms might be making you feel a lot braver than I am, having determined to put myself in the frontline by using my real name and making myself easily accessible to any disgruntled fanatic. In fact I've sent you the comments Mark and when you publish them here I'll create a link to them on NCFP. If that is acceptable to you I'll do the same for everthing else I censor.

another one on the way Mark, I think I'll stick to this system as quite honestly by allowing Yiannis free expression I seem to have provoke him to release a flood of vitriol!

You'll certainly ensure more 'hits' by doing so - good move, Mal!

RE msg 7 & 8, malsancak: Mal, I predict that you'll get mixed up in and endless debate about what is and what is not fit to publish. I suggest you check one or more on line news papers for their "Terms and conditions of use agreement" (this is a very good example for a basic page on your web site, I think: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/tools_and_services/services/terms_and_conditions/ ) and make your life easier.

Good idea DutchCrusader (#10) especially as UK's The Sun newspaper refused to publish my criticism of them for publishing the unsubstantiated "tot snatched" article. I'll just create a link there because I can't understand it!!!

re 12 Pilgrim Sorry.. can't get this link to work... :(

re 7 Mal - Thanks for the pm - but my opinion - for what it is worth - still stands.. it is YOUR site.. but I do think it ain't living up to the "free" bit..

Messing about with pretty innocuous posts.. my opinion is certain to bring about a "reaction".

Q: Are you making a political point or going allow all views?

RE msg 13, 6xm: (...) Q: Are you making a political point or going allow all views? (...)

=> Mark, you seem to have missed an essential sentence (below the headline/banner of said site): "North Cyprus Free Press is a newspaper set up to allow free expression for north Cyprus residents and other well-wishers."

I would hardly call you and other honorary GC's, real GC's, TRNC* bashers, etc "well wishers". Do you, on second thought..?

TRNC*: north Cyprus, Northern Cyprus, TRNC, KKTC or whatever you prefer - but NOT "TRNC". Most oldies here know exactly what you mean with "TRNC".

msg#12, mmmmm said, "allow all views?"

Yes, within reason, but I will not have them on NCFP because it was set up from the point of view of north Cyprus. It's a bit like allowing fans on West Ham United's website to freely express their opinions. I'm sure fans of other teams would like to bombard the site with "WHU are rubbish" messages but as editor I wouldn't publish them. However, I can see there is a strong desire for people to argue and to that end I shall create a button on NCFP (with a warning) for those who wish to have a debate. It will take time as I am working on several other websites at the moment as well as keeping NCFP running (1000 views a day now.) I will still allow free expression with a factual content on the main newspaper but the insults will be moved elsewhere.

Yes, I "missed" that.. how very 'convenient' ... and like so many things - burying ones head on the sand.. and 'ensuring' no descenting voices pointing out some rather obviously 'disadvantageous' things..

RE msg 18, 6xm: So be it, Mark. Plenty of GC platforms to voice your wishes and hopes for "TRNC". But I recognise the TRNC and I'm not interested in Southern views. Easy, ain't it?

I don't think you know me mmmmmm (I hope you don't mind me calling you 6m for short), plus if you care to look there is now a Debate section which I will try to keep TOTALLY uncensored. Perhaps you're in criticism mode today, ooooooh you must try the Debate section on http://debate.northcyprusfreepress.com

It's a different system, I'd have to copy and paste everything, so no I haven't the time. Every comment will now go on uncensored unless they are obviously libellous etc.
