I need a new mobile telephone and am unsure whether it is better to buy one here or in the UK.

Any ideas from anyone who has recently compared the price differences between UK and TRNC?

Hi, The good wife Diana just came back from the UK with a new all singing all dancing Nokia flip, cost £39 unlocked from carphone warehouse.

Given that I paid £45 for a secondhand one of similar type but older vintage in "down town" Girne i would say that the UK purchase was a fair deal.

best regards

Sounds like it is another thing to go on my list for UK!

I am only after a basic phone, I don't want a camera and music playing out of it, just for making calls, texting and storing alot of telephone numbers.

Can all phones be unlocked or am I being 'dumb' here??

Hi Scoobydoo

Most phones can be unlocked especially if they are a few months old. Newer ones (especially Nokia) are harder to unlock so if possible go for a phone which has been on the market for at least 6 months.

Thanks for the advice Karen, I didn't know that.

Is it easy to find someone here to unlock a phone or would you get it done in UK?

Definately get your phone from the UK. If you are not bothered about high spec cameras etc, then there are real bargains to be had. Last time that we were back in UK we bought a really nice Samsung phone from Tesco. Cost £18 and then 20TL to get it unlocked in Girne. Pretty much all the mobile phone shops in Girne can unlock phones.

I once enquired at Carphone Warehouse Meadowhall branch to be told that ALL their mobile phones are sold unlocked.

Timefore, thanks for the warning.

I am going to check out Tesco and Carphone warehouse, as they have both been suggested above. I have looked on their sites and they both have a good range of reasonably priced phones.

Thank you everyone
