If you want a streetmap, the best is from the Buzz Book

Went 10. Days ago. Very disapointed.Flavors much too strong. Good food has delicate flavors theirs didn't. Also the first time that no less than 3 of the staff advised against ordering 1 of the dishes.

Olddogs

You are the first person who I know who has said that 14 was disappointing, I'm surprised

and the part about their staff who are usually most helpful, their food is delicious

Been to 14 twice - my partner several times - always excellent service and food, plus the owners appear to be very nice people

I will be back on my return from London as soon as we can get a babysitter!

May have been unlucky. There was no comparison to the food prepared by Kay at Effendis House when Cliff and Kay ran it when quality ingredients were difficult to source. We were a party of 4 having a variety of dishes. won't be back for a while.

sorry got to agree with old dogs !!! we were greeted by we think the son in law who told us that we wouldnt need a wine list as their house wine is very good which we thought was a strange thing to say however the house wine was nice and then whilst presenting the menu's he told us that the first 3 things on the menu were the best !! we obviously thought he'd run out of all the other stuff ! we ordered steakand the same man told us we didnt need steak knives as their steak was the best on the island !! wrong again mrs snakes steak was tough and grissel ! perhaps it was an "off night" and we certainly hear great things about the place but sadly wont return especially as our table was closest to their small music system which was turned up so the other guests could hear !

sorry ! we'll stick to the Veranda although i expect some out there have had poor service there as well ! this is not meant to be detrimental in any way but a true count of our experience please accept this as such !!

We have been to 14 several times because I love the setting & made excuses for them when they first opened. Have always been very disappointed with the food though, tiny portions, no vegetables or salad obscure dishes that do not always work, as has been mentioned no steak knives. Service hit & miss.

Not a patch on Efendi who also have the advantage of having great inside & outside dining areas plus a nice bar.

I went for the first time last week and was disappointed. The setting was absolutely beautiful but I found the food too rich. I had a sticky toffee pudding which was dry but the sauce was so sweet that I felt unwell the next day. As the menu is so limited, if there are a couple of things you don't like you are only left with a few choices so not a place to return if you like to try different dishes.

I have to say have eaten there on several occassions and the food and service have always been excellent, a limited menu means food is fresh! as for recommending the house wine I think it is great they are not trying to stitch you up on more expensive options, at 25tl for a litre really good value and lovely wine, I am sure you could have refused and asked to see wine list. Also recommendations are normal when you run a restaurant,

I will definately be back

Well we went there last night (1st time), service laked a bit, asked if we were ready to order, and we hadnt even seen a menu!!!!

I had fillet and i must say it was just how had asked for it, so no complaints there.

Just as well we didnt want a sweet, as we never got asked!!!!!!

I think Efendi is still going to be on top of my list......shame as its a nice setting with plenty of space between tables etc....

4 of us dined at number 14 on friday. The fillet was small and tough but the rest was fine. The wine was not chilled enough and was not nice. Asked for 4 coffee,s got none and was CHARGED for 5!!. obviously didnt pay for the coffee after pointing it out. nice setting .

Have to agree, I dont usually run down restaurants and I think this place is beautiful in terms of surroundings but the service was not good. We had to ask for bread after seeing it given to a table next to us. The grandson was serving & doing his best bless him but has to ask us how to pour the wine.

Food was good but we have had better. Still have visited and tried it, but will not hurry to go back.

So, some praise and some complaint!

They have obviously invested and tried hard to set up a new business, something that is not easy in NC.

I have to ask if any of you who have had a poor experience have actually bothered to convey your dissapointment to them, rather than just whinging on a Bulletin Board???

If not, how on earth can they be expected to improve their service?

Give them a break!

Be constructive.

Some of you one day may be in the same position trying to set up a business and earn some income.

The owners of Number 14 used to have Efendis so are not in any way new to the restaurant business.

We haven't been to Number 14 but went to Efendis when they owned it. My partner ordered quail and was served six quail legs instead of the whole bird. We've never forgotten it and won't give them a another chance to take the michael!

Hi Rob.

I think some of these criticisms are constructive. Let's face it if you run a business or offer any kind of service then you have to be open and accept criticism. Some people don't like to 'challenge' the provider of the service they have received for whatever reason. Perhaps the owner of 14 will get a feedback from someone on here.

Why don't restaurants give you a questionnaire to complete at the end of your meal? That way you can convey the positives and negatives directly to them without having to make a formal approach.

Bill

That smacks of 'I was unhappy' but will 'leave complaining' to someone else.

Perhaps it's just me, but it's generally accepted that Brits are genetically moaners, but rarely directly to the Business involved.

I have had some excellent and constructive responses from Businesses I have contacted over poor service or products.

It's the ones who do not respond that you avoid in the future!

There are certain 'rules' regarding how to complain.

Maybe I should start a topic on 'How to Complain Successfully' !

Dare I comment because I haven't been to 14?

However I know a man who has been twice now (2nd time to give them a 2nd chance) & on both occasions he was very disappointed.

Lovely setting but that's not the main criteria for a restaurant. Shame about the food & prices for what he received.

We must have hit lucky reading previous postings. We were there last Wednesday for husbands birthday and enjoyed a lovely meal in a beautiful courtyard setting. Fillet steak for me and Aberdeen Angus for husband, really good and cooked to our request. A bit dearer than most places we have dined in there, but would go again....

We went in June and the food was fine dining indeed. My missus assesses chefs at College , and she is in a better position than 95% of us to judge. We will definitely be back. The food was excellent from a small, but varied menu, the surroundings & ambience are a delight, and for inexperienced waiters, Cliff & Kays family did a more than adequate job!
