Only just caught the end of the news report warning Hotmail users in Europe that if they have been compromised change their password. Back to the cricket! Richard

Yeah, it happened to me too. I soon realized how foolish I ad been by giving away my password and immediately I changed it but in the meantime spam went out too all in my address book. You get a message telling you that you can find out who blocked you on hotmail. So you get curious and click the link and once you type your password its too late. Silly me. ismet

RE msg 2, Ismet: (...) You get a message telling you that you can find out who blocked you on hotmail. So you get curious and click the link and once you type your password its too late. Silly me. (...) => I can hardly believe it. Only two, three days ago I warned on this board for worms, viruses and redirected sites - it's all in vain. And another fact to think about, Ismet: your anti-virus/anti-spam software should have warned you that the link you clicked had nothing to do with Hotmail. And last but nost least: using an existing password for an untested site is really the most stupid, pardon: silly, thing one can do... Rule 1-2-3: don't trust the Internet and prepare for the crooks out there who are waiting for some of us.

Hans, You can tell me how silly and stupid I was and you are absolutely right but all this happened before your warning. In fact it was you and Nigel who did actually warn me about spam coming from my computer. As for antivirus software, I leave it to my son to look after me and unfortunately he is too busy with his photography work lately. They are in London at the moment and will be back soon for more hard work. ismet

Yep......For some reason I changed my hotmail password on Saturday, NOW I cannot get back in.....Have tried all options to reset....But I think there is some very clever spyware bugs out there that has it all sown up!! Ive spoken to a Computer Wiz Who is going to try and unlock for me...Hope He can sort for me!!!!! Not Sure if I like Hotmail anymore seems a bit security risky?....As for Facebook I do not fully understand it and everybody I speak to Has various security problems IT releted Plus! I Have just remembered as I type this I tried over the weekend to send photos to a friend via Hotmail and got some request to download an update software package to continue. It was from then on that I have had a problem!! SO PLEASE BE AWARE, IF TRYING TO SEND PHOTO's....DONT AGREE To UPGRADE OR CHANGE ANYTHING IF PROMPTED! nunu1

Hotmail and Yahoo seem to have security issues at the moment. Gmail is probably the securest e-mail provider now. AJ

RE msg 3, lilli: (...) an email from a regular on here asking me to see photos when I opened it it went to everybody in my address book and to people I did not know. (...) => Your anti-virus/anti-spam software should have warned you (an on screen alarm with explanation). RE msg 10, AJ: (...) Hotmail and Yahoo seem to have security issues at the moment. Gmail is probably the securest e-mail provider now. (...) => I agree 100%. By far the best webmail site and still getting better. You'll find it here: http://www.google.com (choose Gmail). And you can import all your saved email addresses from Yahoo, Hotmail and other (web)mail programs. Give it a try - you will be surprised (and much safer!).

Has anyone tried 'Pegasus Mail'? Since using this simple, excellent email programme (written by Dr. David Harris of Dunedin University) I have not had a single 'spam' email. You can download it free - but if you like it you can send DH ten bucks - if not, he won't 'black screen' you, like happened to me a while ago when I couldn't pay AVG in time!

Dear board members: DO NOT think you are safe when you only open mail from friends or other people you know. Malicious software can be attached to or hidden in ANYTHING you download (receive): mail, web pages, software and what have you. Take the only right precaution: buy or use free software that checks ALL incoming data on your computer!!! (As a double security I for instance use two anti-malware programs: one for incoming and one for outgoing data, because I don't want to have my own computer infected nor yours). Furthermore I use software to block all (incoming) ports in case someone out there tries to control my computer illegally. P.S. A sideline, but of the utmost importance: do you regularly - at least once a week, although I do it daily - back up the hard drive in your computer on an external drive?! They are ***cheap but invaluable*** when something goes wrong on your laptop and all your data are gone!!!
