Goodmorning everyone,

In order for my hubby to come over to Cyprus this summer and do his work he is in dire need of a fast internet connection.

We will be at the Seaterra Bay site in Tatlisu.

Does anybody know a good provider and how long will it take to be up and running?

Kind regards from a miserable Blighty (will summer ever come??)

Hi Nickyclauda

I'd be interested to hear any responses as I use dial-up over a mobile connection at the moment as it is sooooo slow and mega expensive as I am roaming on a foreign network. I have suggested to my employers that they could fit a microwave onto the roof of our house and link to a satelite/base station but it would cost more (plus everyone else would be tapping into it!) than it would be worth.

I don't think Extend have got this far yet.

quote//Internet

We now have prices from our ISP Provider as below:-

Initial one off installation (includes Router) 200 ytl

Six monthly Subscription 545 ytl

Three monthly Subscription 300 ytl

Monthly Subscription 120 ytl

Please note that we feel the above prices are quite costly if you only use your apartment for short stays. A way around this would be to team up and share router and password with a small group of people, but you would be responsible for the organisation of same.

Any feedback from relevant committees would be appreciated on the above.//end quote

I got this email of Bea from Vistamar Management. I have emailed her to ask for more detais.

As soon as I here anything I will let you know Karen.

Fingers crossed! (although it will mean I'm stuck with hubby for 6 weeks....so much for getting away from him!! Bugger!)

Hi nickyclauda,

This is really useful information, thank you for posting the details. Do you know what the up/download speeds are. Once our place in Turtle Bay Beach is complete we plan on setting up a wireless router for pay-as-you-go for other residents in the area but we are unlikely to be moving in for another 12-18 months I should imagine.

Thanks

Hi Kyrenia007,

I will try and find out as much as I can but am still waiting for reply from Vistamar.

I have just spoken to my husband (very IT he is!) and he reckons it will be about 2Mb but then it depends on how many people are on it. He did explain it in detail but I'm afraid I lost the plot!!

He will be home on Wednesday so I will try and get him to explain it a bit better!

If anybody out there has any info...I think a lot of people would be grateful!

Hi Sunnyday,

Have you got email/website/phone number?

How long did it take for it to be up and running and what is up/download speed?

Hi Nickyclauda

Here is Extend's web address it gives all of the charges

http://www.extendbroadband.com/

I didn't realise they'd got out this far so I'll pop in to see them. It would be great to have BBC radio without having to pay streaming costs.

Hi Billybob

I thought I read somewhere that Extend now owns the internet club. I could be wrong of course.

Hi Karen

Yes Extend bought the internet club recently as mentioned in Cyprus Today and the Observor this week.

You could also try Sunny Cyprus who In think may cover Tatlisu. I took up their 40 sterling equipment and installation offer in January plus 40 sterling per month for up to 757 k speed and have so far been satisfied with their service in Esentepe. The plus of this is you dont spend a lot on installation without knowing what the service quality is like.

Try http://www.sunnycyprus.net for information.

Otherwise you could wait and see what the new Chinese company the government recently gave a contract to for wireless telphones plus internet may do. But I would expect it would be a while before they are operational.

Regards

Aussie
