The UK has been hit so hard by the recession it now sits below developing countries Nigeria and Panama in the financial stability rankings, says a report by the World Economic Forum today.

Out of 55 global economies, the UK ranks 37th for financial stability, just above the US at 38th, according to the Forum's second annual Financial Development Report.

Kevin Steinberg, chief operating officer at the World Economic Forum, warns stability is the key issue, not overall scores:

"The United Kingdom and US may still show leadership in the rankings, but their significant drops in score show increasing weakness and imply their leadership may be in jeopardy."

Germany and France suffered a heavy fall in overall scores that pulled them out of the top 10.

Both countries slumped in the rankings, but held fast in terms of financial stability, achieving scores significantly higher than the UK and US, the report says.

Where on earth did you find that information? I went to the link and loaded the "full rankings pdf" and looked at the table with UK at the top in 1st place!!! Seems like one person saying one thing while the official statistics says something totally different.

The link opens for me but if you go to http://www.weforum.org/en/index.htm and click on "full rankings pdf" you will get the chart quoted on the post. We're probably both right but I was unable to find the article's source. What I am saying is that the article makes a statement without saying EXACTLY where to find the information that backs it up. I went to the http://www.weforum.org website to see how Turkey did in the report and was stunned when the only chart I found contradicted the article shown in the other post. It is not your fault No1Doyen it is whoever put the article together. It's just that there is a lot of propaganda out there and I like to check things out and point out if things don't look right.
