I am planning on renewing the rubberised coating in the gulleys around my pool. Is there anyone out there who can recommend what they consider to be the best sealent.

I know Marshall's sell Webber products for pools but would be interested in further advise on this before I go ahead.

I bought the 'white stuff' recommended by TAYF (Marshall's agent near Karaoğlanoğlu Lemar)

Can't remember its name, sorry, but it's lasted well over two years now, and the crappy grey stuff that the builders used needed re-doing after 6 months in the sun!

I should warn you that you need at least two coats, and it's like painting with molasses...

Osmaseal is the best waterproof coating available. 2 THOROUGH coats required at least, and it's not cheap!

Good Luck!!

Thanks for your advise - I will get it sorted over the Christmas New Year period, depending on the weather.

Hi Ustwo,

Must admit when we read your posting we too thought it was a good idea. We have a tile cutter amongst our 'bounty' for our next visit!

You will still need to seal your gullies as tiles are purely a decorative and easy to clean surface. They do not always provide a waterproof barrier.

Tiling a gulley is a time consuming and not cheap. It would be a shame if it still leaked afterwards, but the choice is yours.

I really don't want to go into a long debate with you Vaughan,it works for us and we are are happy.Tiles are waterproof used with the correct grout otherwise they would not have been used for swimming pools showers and wet rooms etc..

In a swimming pool tiles are chosen as an easy to clean, decorative finish. What makes a pool waterproof is the "isolation" that goes on the concrete pool shell before rendering. The biggest part of our business is repairing pools that leak and we know why they leak and how to stop them. It is never only to do with the tiles.

However, if it worked for you, then I am glad to hear it.

Wet rooms do not use tiles and grout as the waterproof barrier, they are sealed underneath the tiles, much like a pool.

Shower tiles are only wet for a few minutes at a time.

We had wet rooms in our villas and all sorts of problms because the builder had not put in any "isolation", we ended up haveing shower trays put in as the only cost effective cure, I think Vaughan has a point.
