Let the South of Cyprus become part of Greece, and let the North become part of Turkey.

Then there will be no Cyprus Problem.

And before everyone gets on their high horse about Cyprus for Cypriots, how about the TC's thanking Turkey for all the money, over all the years, and that they can manage financially without the Motherland. The TC's take the money, but want to administer it (disasterously) themselves.

If things carry on the way they are, the north will be full of Turks and Brits (who can't afford to go back). TC's would have gone elsewhere after selling their exchange land.

Cyprus has been "partitioned" for the past 35 years. If the rest of the world dont want to see, hear and understand this for whatever reason, there is only one thing that springs to my mind:F**K'EM

It all makes sense but will it happen? Britain will do everything possible to avoid it simply because such a solution would be too stable.

I supported the Annan Plan at the time but I have always stated that I did not expect it to last for more than a few years. The same goes for Bizonal Bicommunal solution if it ever happens. So logically a simple clean partion is the answer but the trouble is that once we have a stable solution on the island the so called "Sovereign Bases" will be questioned and their position will become untenable. No way.

My belief and expectation is that there will be a partion in the long run without a formal agreement supported by the Americans at the cost of a base for them in the north. So what could be a better solution for the Anglo Saxons- two bases in the south and one base in the north

Just been watching a report on Italian TV. They showed both the TRNC and South side. The programme was about the Turkeys entrance to the EU. Thier relationshipe with the Kurdish people. It stated that a solution wouild be by the end of the year for cyprus and its people x The eyes of Europe are on us

A clean break (= partition), as part of Turkey, is the only viable answer to all this. Greece and the GCs witter on about Turkey not getting EU Membership Et Al. Bar Stewards - run by the Greek Orthodox Church. Did you see the new Greek PM being sworn in - by Clergy! Same on the GC side - the Church there rules the roost.

Forget KKTC/TRNC, just Turkey will do for me! Turkey don't need the EU, it has USA backing it - thanks to the US Bases there, and don't forget it has been suggested for some time now the USA would like a base situated in the North of Cyprus. And then we have Verosha - nice little money pot that could ruin the GC tourist trade.

Settlement? Don't make me laugh.

As Stevie Wonder once said..

Very SuPartition, writings on the wall,

Very SuPartition, ladders bout to fall,

When you believe in things that you dont understand,

Then you don’t suffer, SuPartition’s on the way

Very SuPartition, wash your face and hands,

Rid me of the problem, do all that you can,

Keep me in a daydream, keep me goin strong,

You dont wanna save me, sad is my song.

When you believe in things that you dont understand,

Then you don’t suffer, Superstition on the way, yeh, yeh.

Very SuPartition, nothin more to say,

Very SuPartition, the devils gone away,

Dear Ismet re 10

it's always been about the bases.... a shame so many Cypriots were 'used' .. 'stirred up' .. to keep the big aircraft carrier in the Med..

I didnt mention anyones prosperity.

If you want to argue that GC and TC have not lived peacefully for 35 years then do so . If you cant ,then say so,rather than introducing Turkey, prosperity ,investments,Goldilocks,Jackanory,as some sort of way of saying your intellect is vastly superior to a childish mind like mine.

You forgot to mention my belief in Santa Claus.

Dear Andy-f / Geoff re 27/8

I don't know if I'm breaking any secret here- never signed the OSA - but the U2 has been based on the SOVEREIGN BASE are of the UK . It was photographed on the front page of a CY freebie newspaper!

The US had a listening post in the northern part of CY BEFORE July 74 ( according to independent sources) .. can't speak about now...

If you don't want a sarcastic response don't make one, perhaps?

Sorry ,in all that smarmy dialogue ,I must have missed your reasons why you think there has not been peace

I wasnt being sarcastic, there has been peace for 35years. I wish you would stop your habit of telling people on here what they 'really' meant to say.

If the definition of sarcasm is."a form of humor that uses sharp, cutting remarks or language intended to mock,"

then even you couldnt be accused of being sarcastic as the "intended to mock" is the only part of that definition that applies to your replies.

How about we all concede that you are smarter than everyone else, and we can then stop wasting time with you trying to prove it all the time.

Anyway I have wasted enough time on this .

The real reason for the Cyprus problem lies far deeper than most suspect. The abject finacial situation of Britain in the 60's , USA's paranoia about communism, the "strategic" value of the island and last but not least the domestic political problems beetting the military junta in Greece at the time. The question "did he fall or was he pushed" comes to mind. My reading of the documentation available is, that TR was the tool. The purpose was somewhere else altogether and the purpose still persists today, hence the problem.

I beleive the bases in the RoC have been largely funded by the US since the 1960s, when the UK ran out of money, and he who pays the piper.....

Because of its colonial past Britain had/has many bases around the world, some of them extremely small and remote - Diego Garcia (Google Earth will blow you away - B52's all over the place) and Ascension Island being great examples.

America wants bases and is willing to pay for them. Makes sense to me.

Back on thread, I'm not sure I agree with ismet in msg 10 re SBAs.
