In a bid to help the economy and as an alternative to spending cuts. Gordon Brown has announced he plans to raise 16 billion pounds by selling off things like. The Tote, The Chanel Tunnel Rail link and the student loan book. What will be left if he carries on in this way and what else will he sell x

| Well according to Gormless Gord the Uk will be climbing out of recession next year, now he's having a fire sale. Must have looked at the figures and finaly realised he's up to his neck in debit, sooner he's on his way the better, not that he was elected anway, another labour con, hope thay all rot in hell for the damage they have done to our once proud and pleasant land. | DN..I am sure he is very well aware of how much we are in debt, and selling off those items is no big deal. Why are you worried you do not even live here?Other political parties have caused problems for the uk economy in the past, probably why people did not want them back for 12 yrs. We shall see what Dell Boy Cameron brings in.I would not be surprised if the "old guard" Tories rebell against him ,the same as they did against Thatcher. He is not very popular with his own party at the moment because of his stand for changes to the Expenses fiddle. The Sirs are disgusted about that. I wonder what you would say in 12 months time if it was Cameron who was "having a fire sale" as you put it. |

Hi Coachie, I respect many of your views, but can only say with regard to politicians, politics and the genral state of the Uk not many politicians are worth a fig. May be I am no longer resident in the Uk, but watching the the country where I was born, have fought for, and contributed too go down the pan is not easy to stomach. Gord was never elected by the British people, his leadership qualities are a joke and I dont believe the country will benifit under his office. Cammeron like any other politicion is telling people what they want to hear, when he has the rudder no doubt that will change, as it does with them all. With regard to Cameron having a fire sale I doubt if there will be anything left to sell, Gords already sold the gold , now other assets, probably the crown jewles next. D.N

DN..What we all should remember is that the world economic recession is not Gordon Browns fault.Ok he sold gold off at a low price ,but that was the price then,he is not a clairvoyant who can say" Oh I will wait 6months it will go higher".I sold some shares in my company for what I thought was a good price after watching them for awhile,6months later they had doubled because some one came in for a takeover. You sell when you need money.Whatever he sold went into the pot for the well being of this country and its people,it did not go into his own pocket. If he has to sell the crown jewels to safeguard our standards then so be it.He has tried his best to keep the unemployment to a minimum, but all people want to do is criticise. You do not get anything for nothing in this world you have to pay for all of it.I know he was not elected and that does not bother me one bit.If a chairman of a company resigns a new one is elected by the board of directors not the workforce so why all of the fuss.

Coachie. How on earth can you compare a Chairman of a Company with a Prime Minister of a Country?

Their are non so blind as those who cannot see, while I can admire your devotion to all things labour Coachie we will have to agree to disagree on this one. I cannot say any other party politician could have done better, than Gord this we will never know. What I believe is and what fact is telling us is, the Uk is in a worse position economicaly than many of its other major european counterparts this position is due to failures in leadership of the Uk and this can only fall at the feet of the present goverment and its policies. Who ever wins the next election will probably spend most of their elected period getting out of the hole we are in, and it will be the man on the street paying for it. But why should I give a hoot sitting her in the sun, sipping a GnT surrounded by scantly clad ladies, it wont be my loot being squandered, Ive jumped ship!! Here endith the first lesson D.N

Selling off assets to get cash for debt payment makes little sense in this instance as we then do not have the asset and still have a massive debt. Also the price achieved will probably be below the market value. It smacks of short term desperation.

Hi Lilli and fellow members, I would just like to say that Gordi and His merry Men are an utter disgrace and unfit to run the UK. They simply (Labour) cannot manage money etc. They are supposed to be for the working Man...?....New Labour?.......? They have continued to target and hit the working Families and if People cannot see that and vote Labour in again then they really are STUPID! I simply cannot wait till this lot get kicked out!!! Unfortunately Whoever (Torry's)?? gets in will inherit a serious amount of debt and mismanaged leadership, hence will take at least 3 years along with the global credit crunch to even begin to recover... I personally thing the whole Labour Party should serve time in Prison for: Theft, Deception, Fraud, Treason, etc!!!!!!!!!!!!! Again LABOUR are an UTTER DISGRACE!!!! nunu1

What a load of ill informed weirdos! Just ask yourselves a few questions - why are we all paying so much for utilities - and likely to pay much more??? Why are pensions so low - who severed the link between earnings and pensions. Why are there no manufacturing jobs? Why are we importing coal from Russia and other countries? What was north sea oil revenue squandered on? Do all you lot suffer from the same affliction that causes you to emigrate to a country in turmoil, spend your hard earned on dubious property deals and then spend your miserable existence complaining about the british government,TRNC for not protecting you from the fraudsters, the Turks, the Greeks, being ripped off despite your best efforts to stimulate the TRNC economy, the weather in winter ...............!!!! And you have spoilt my long term holiday destination !!! I wonder if the 44 in the forum title refers to your collective IQ.

When McBroon flogged the gold it was in decline therefore he got naff all for it. Gold has always been cyclical and he sold at the bottom of the market, showing his financial nous. Whatever he flogs now will also be at the cheap end given the recession. Why sell the Dartford crossing? it's paid for and brings in loads of money in tolls.
