Hi Everyone,

We are leaving the island at the end of the month and for weeks now i have been trying to re-home our 2 cats (both neutered males, aged 2 years, both house trained), but had absolutely no interest.

Can anyone please, please help me as we are getting desperate...

The first one is Charlie:

He's a lovely friendly cuddly chap, very vocal and loves to be fussed, happy inside or out - he'd make the perfect pet.

The second one is Bobbie:

Like charlie, a lovely friendly chap that loves to be fussed, happy inside or out - he is very inquisitive and loves human company, again he'd make the perfect pet.

If anyone out there is looking for a cat of knows someone who does, please contact me on:

Dear Mellie: I'm absolutely willing to help rehoming pets and I wish you success, but lately I'm wondering why so many pets *have* to be rehomed. Why don't you take them with you to the UK - it's not that difficult or expensive. A couple of days ago someone wrote on this board "Pets are not only for Christmas" and I agree 100%.

Have I missed something Crusader? Do cats not have to go into 6 months quarantine on return to UK the same as dogs?

If so, I totally understand Mellie wanting to find new homes. Neither would I want to put my dogs or cats through that. Even if I could afford it.

I can't help Mellie, sorry, we have a houseful already, but I sincerely hope you do find new homes soon.

RE msg 4, dizzydoozer: (...) Have I missed something Crusader? Do cats not have to go into 6 months quarantine on return to UK the same as dogs? If so, I totally understand Mellie wanting to find new homes. (...)

=> I understand that a certain - British run - organisation in TRNC is supposed to know other ways. Legal, almost legal or not legal at all - worth a try, isn't it?

P.S. I wouldn't say goodbye to two only 2 years old pets. But that's a personal remark.

Hans, you are so wrong about it not being expensive to take animals back to the UK. By the time we have taken our small dog back to the UK and she is with us again, it will have cost us the best part of £3,000. Flights, quaratine etc etc.

=> Sorry, I don't want to be pedantic but where did I say that?!

RE msg 7, mellie: (...) we are not going back to the uk - we are travelling round Asia/the Far East for 12 months, so it is not possible to take the cats with us... (...)

=> Pedantic: I know from experience that it is very difficult to write a complete message/article. If you had said that in msg 1 I wouldn't have reacted the way I did.

So. Back on topic, back to the top.

Hi There

Do you have a Plan B if no one is out there to take your two cats??????????????

I do hope they will not be put out to survive on their own like alot of cats around here.

Pets are like family you can't just up and leave they are like your children!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry but I feel strongly about this and these are my thoughts.

Sickened by so many of these British 'Nation of Pet Lovers' abandoning their pets when they leave Cyprus.

What is going to happen to these 2 cats if you get no takers for them?

Perhaps if people are not settled here permanently they ought to think carefully before getting a pet, I would dearly love a dog but know that, although we do live here, we will be travelling abroad and so won't consider having one. I hope these cats can be found good homes but if not, what will happen to them ?

Responsible thinking Hatti. Having worked for the animal sanctuaries and rescues here for some years, I really don't understand how a lot of Brits will pay any amount of money and jump thro' all sorts of hoops to bring their existing UK pets here with them. But seem not to be inclined to do it the other way round for taking them back to UK with them? A pet is a pet is a pet. Not less of a pet if you acquired it here or brought it here with you and are now returning.

Mess 13 - Hatti, we didn't "get them", they are Cyprus cats that came to our house as strays and we fed them....

This thread has gone off topic - we are still desperately looking for homes for our two boys, won't someone offer them a home ? PLEASE.......

I'm going a bit off topic, but I just wanted to say that this is one of the big problems of feeding strays and then they become pets. You start off feeling sorry for the poor thin animals and just start putting a bit of food out, and then before you know it they've moved in. It's a real dilema(can't spell) , because how can you ignore a hungry animal?, then if you move away what happens? Should you just have left them to starve or should you feed them but not wanting the responsibiity of ownership.

Anyway, take this one back to the top. Sorry I can't help, but I have 4 of my own that I brought from England, and 2 regular strays that I refuse to name or get involved with, other than putting some food out for them.

Is this not a case for euthanasia of ALL feral animals in TRNC? Every day there are gazillions of abandoned, or "can't take them with us" or animals that have been spayed or neutered then put back to fend for themselves..........if only there was a designated weekend, notice given well beforehand of when that is going to be - then ANY animal found outside a house - dispatched immediately and removed and disposed of out of sight of anyone - then all 'pets' registered with a recognised centre, microchipped by law and in one fell swoop this desperately sad situation brought back down to an even keel...............

oh - and when folk leave and sell/give their pets to another person, by law, the microchip has to be changed as a condition of new ownership, to reflect the new owners details..........so every animal's provenance can be accounted for..............

Mellie, why not take them with you? Maybe they could be offset against the travel cost. I believe that in parts of Asia they are considered as something of a delicacy.

I have to agree with MsGarnet's posting - it sounds a horrible solution - but it might be the only solution - the fact is there are too many animals to be rehomed, it needs a radical and humane solution, now, not later.

There is no respect for animals - we watched two children carrying two little puppies, then put them down and the boy kicked one puppy up in the air - my friend went ballistic and shouted, the puppies were not kicked while we watched them - but who know what happened when they were out of our sight?

Please get it under control now - let all dog owners have to have a license and be fined if they don't. Let any pet own be made responsible for any animal they have not over-breeding.
