Or, should the real question be: "Will the EU honour its obligations to the Turkish Cypriots (first)?"

By not opening it's ports, Turkey is showing the EU, UN and the rest of the world, its support for the Turkish Cypriots. Well done Turkey.

It would be very easy for them to open their ports, let a few GC registered ships dock, etc, and "possibly" be able to join the EU with all its benefits. But they still refuse and show their solidarity for a few hundred thousand.

Once again, well done.

No.. you had the Q right the first time..

TR signed the Ankara Agreement to open up it's port airspace / airports to ALL EU members AFTER the RoC had acceded.

'Well done ?'

WHY sign up to the rules of a club and then break 'em when under probation ?

Ask your question of the EU who also broke a promise

Hi exnavalperson,

Unfortunately, when Turkey signed the Ankara Agreement it became a legal obligation. When EU made its "promise" to the TCs it was just that - a political promise.

Legal Obligation v. Political Promise. - No comparison, I'm afraid.

Don't get me wrong - I'm no happier about it than you are.

Hi mmmmm,

What might be a better idea is if Turkey were to open the ports/airports on a trial basis - they could always close them again later if it didn't look like changing anything.

Q....is the airspace /ports available to all other countries other than Greece?

If so....could the greek ships just fly a flag of "convienance" as do alot of ships?

If it is closed to all....why is there not more complaints from all other countries ( other than greece )

can anyone enlighten me?

re 7/8 'GREEK' ships ??

You mean CYPRIOT ships / planes, right?...

Greek ships/ planes / yachts can / do frequent TR !

re 3>>Ask your question of the EU who also broke a promise<< Specifically WHICH promise has the EU broken? It WANTS to end the isolation of the TCs - esp as they voted YES to Annan - and the TCs ARE receiving EU aid - despite the 'rump' RoCs concerns that this is elevating the 'status of "TRNC"..

re 4 TR needs to call the 'rump' RoC's bluff.. It should never have signed, if it wasn't going to 'deliver'.. This isn't 'weakness' it is wise.. assuming TR WANTS to go down the EU path, still !
