It sounds like a joke but it is serious. One advocate from Girne who represents one of the biggest developers in north Cyprus has argued that the Sale Contract which is in English is not valid because it is not in Turkish. It is in writing and in the court. As a matter of fact, all the agreements of this particular developer are all in English. I know that sometimes the advocates make some wild allegations in their pleadings but this one takes the biscuit. It must be the joke of the year. ismet http://www.elkocyprus.com

But would be more interesting if you named the developer. Some of the biggest are UK companies.

I'll name the two Advocates who took me for a ride. Gurkan & Gurkan and Bilimer. The only things they represent are their own Bank Accounts! And they can sue me for whatever they think fit may stand up in a Court of Law! I await with great trepidation! Richard

Ismet Ever thought about bringing your wife onto the Forum? Tinker The tinker of an Advocate that tinkered with my bank balance named Bilimer who is no longer tinkering with me, however, his daughter is quite attractive so maybe in lieu I could tinker with her! Richard

I know of one busy property developer employeee in the North (worked for one of the biggest developers) sold loads of off plan properties before it all started going tits up. Then disappeared and then re-appeared operating under a false name. And some people still trust them?

msg. 11 Ctill, This particular developer is using a young advocate for the defence. Perhaps he cannot afford a better one and certainly not the usual one who cares for him but gets paid by the buyer. ismet

What happens if the court decide to uphold this argument. Does it mean that all previous contracts with this particular developer are worthless because they are in English? As Ismet states, if it weren't so serious it would be a joke. The butlers wife

No way for this argument to be accepted but it shows how this particular advocate is clutching at the straws. Sometimes advocates can argue a point even when they do not believe it themselves but there must be a limit and I think this is over the limit. Very poor show Mr. Advocate, I bet his client is not aware of such an argument otherwise he would deserve the sack. ismet
