Can anyone explain please? For example I had 318 pages and 1613 hits so far this month from GB. What does it mean?

I don't think so. I think I am beginning to understand it now. For example for October so far I have:

243 unique visitors

296 number of visits

1025 pages

4086 hits

1000.51 MB

Those who do know please correct me if I am wrong but I think when somebody visits the site that is one page, if they click on something there another page opens thus that makes two pages etc. I think if on a page there are say four pictures, two headings and say five separate text, by opening that page you make 4+2+5 =11 hits.

Yes?

Page impressions are proof that your website has been viewed - actual click throughs to any page on website. Hits, for example, when your website comes up you only have to drag the mouse over an item for it to be registered a hit. Eg, if Im on this site if I drag my mouse over any part of it, such as forum, contact, events, etc this is recorded also as a hit, even though you do not enter that part of the site. So the page impressions are true counters for your visits!

Msg 3 Elko said, "243 unique visitors "

The most useful figures are visitors per day as the 243 above spread over 18 days might mean 14 customers a day are visiting and they might even be the same customers returning each day. Another useful stat is how long they stay, long stays mean they are reading and short stays mean they are quickly bored with what the site has to say. If you have a search facility it's good to have a utility which tells you what they are searching for especially if you don't have it.

Thanks to everybody who contributed, now the subject is much clearer. The web statistics is a gold mine with statistics about length of stay, IP's used and thus able to track down the location of interested visitors etc. Thanks.

A page is a complete web page

A hit is an item, i.e if your web page has several pictures on it, each time someone accesses your page, each picture will register as a hit, as well as any other items in the page
