A really good read but I despair at the comments ,how when there is such a diverse response could anyone expect a solution. The bitternes is so unbelievable after such a long time, you really cant see an end in sight.

Asked if they discussed any alternative plan in case the Cyprus negotiations come to a dead end Christofias said, "It is Turkey which has alternative dangerous plans for Cyprus, launching threats if the Cyprus problem is not settled by April,as Ankara says. What hope is there with imflammotary remarks like that.Time to admit that the talks are dead and buried and have been from day one.The gcs seem to forget that this could have been sorted in 2004 but they decided to bail out and pull the plug on them,

Paul.

interesting article paul,

though I think we are all a bit obsessed with the talks:

probably because the jolly expats see themselves as amenable types

happy to bash middle-eastern ear'oles with their "reasonableness"

and gc sympathisers puff the talks for reasons quite of their own

without any sign of compromise from his negociating "partners"

and a political mandate fading fast, talat thoroughly nice chap that he is

is very close to being hung out to dry

turkey has been muttering darkly for some time,

and while the gc's feel sanctions underscore their "ownership" claims

by pressuring turkey to withdraw and pigs might fly,

the blockade is seen in the north as aggressive and provocative

'course, our friends to the south may still choose to believe

veiled turkish threats to annexe the trnc are nowt but bluff and tosh

...like the time they tried to join cyprus to the the colonels' greece

and only realized their miscalulation as the parachutes floated down

I had a GC lad in my shop yesterday for tattoo, and I asked him what his views were on the talks, and he said that he reckons 90% of the GC's do not think there will be a solution, I asked him why ? and his answer was that it was the fact that the GC's still want control of the whole Island that would hinder any solution, oh and he said he was very bitter at the fact that because the Turkish army was there he had to do national service , Just one guy in his early 20's but he reckoned he spoke for the majority of GC's.

Dunno really he seemed fairly truthful when he was talking about it, and said that whenever he had spoken to anyone about it that he reckons that was the general consensus, I suppose he didn't like the army either.
