The air con on my car isn't working, I've been told that it is the 'main part' the motor that needs replacing. I've been given a silly price here of over £1000 for the part alone! I will try and source the part from the UK, but have looked on various internet sites and don't know which bit I need, as their is no reference to the motor on any of the sites. Is it the condensing unit or the de-condensing unit I need?

Any ideas please.

If it is the condenser then 1000 pounds is well out of order it is more likely the compresser you are talking about.

These will not be unique to your engine and you will be able to pick either a second hand or recondishened one here try Iceman/Scotsman opposite on the street opposite the colony.

suntanman. Im an english mechanic, for what reason did they say the main part needs replacing? If she has gas and just wont turn on, then it could be something simple. If shes lost all the gas then obviously there must be a leak. What car do you have? I have brought all my tools including some diagnostic units. So if i can be of some help, then phone me on 05338439065.

Thanks for all your advice.

compressor. condenser, de compressor. it's all a foreign language to me.

The car is a 2003 Hyundi Getz auto.

I took the car for a check up at the garage in Esentepe. That's where I was given the price to fix the air con. From what they say, they took the car to an air con specialist to see if the system only needed re-gassing, and that's when they hit me with the cost to repair. I spoke to someone here today and said that for the price quoted (£1000) I could get a whole new complete air con system for less in the UK.

Try the garage by the Girne hospital (its states electrical parts) - I know someone from the south had to travel up here just to get theirs fixed.

A bit more diagnosic info for you 'teckies'

Originally the aircon didn't blow very cold and there didn't appear to be any force to the flow. we were driving along one day, and there was a screeching sound and a smell of burning. From then, when I turned the air con on, I lost engine power to the whole vehicle. Turned the air con off and she drove fine.

The car has since had a full service, cam belt replaced, rocker head gasket replaced. Drives fantastic now, but it's bloody hot inside !!
