It 'looks' like a Stapeliad. Did you notice an unpleasant smell just after it opened? Fiona

RE msg 3, darrener2: (...) It 'looks' like a Stapeliad. Did you notice an unpleasant smell just after it opened? (...) => Fiona, the plant is outside, a new flower opened this morning (very fast!) but there's a lot of wind at the moment and I didn't have a chance to catch the smell. More flowers are bound to open and I'll keep my nose near to them. Thanks for the tip! => Amazing how people appreciate this flower! From "fantastic" (my opinion) to "ugly"! More opinions and why?

Fiona, you were right! I found this: "Stapeliads belong to the Asclepiad plant family (Asclepiadaceae), and the majority are found in the arid regions of South Africa and Madagascar. Some species are however scattered higher up in Africa, and grow as far north as the southern regions of Europe. Due to the remoteness and harsh climates that Stapeliads thrive in, most people aren't fortunate enough to ever see some of the most spectacular flowers on the planet." Source: http://anti-matter-3d.com/Stapeliads/ More about "Stapeliads": http://www.google.com/search?q=Stapeliad&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8 Thanks again!

Does it flower every year? My cactus came into beautiful purple flowering bloom earlier this year after 8 years but didn't last very long. Richard

Dear Richard, please tell your spoiling friend, now a notorious scatterbrain on this board, that nobody is interested in his outpourings in most threads. Thank you.

Hans i have the same in my garden however yesterday i went to the garden centre at alagadi and got a different variety, he is selling them in pots for 30TL and the flowers are amazing once open they are as big as a turkish coffee cup saucer. The smell is not great but they do attract the flies so they serve a purpose as well.

Thanks for the serious answers in this thread. But unfortunately it doesn't seem possible to keep this thread (and other threads) on topic. So: bye.
