My biggest problem is that the people that we vote in to serve us ( labour & the tories mostly) don't actually serve us at all.

When are we consulted or asked to vote for anything concerning the UK ?? It never happens. We are rail-roaded down a path that everyone I talk to doesn't want to go.

Time to address the inbalance by moving many more elements of decision making away from centralised government to decentralised communities encouraging local participation and involvement. Give the power back to the people.

Doesn't' help when we have even more centralised power moving to Europe thus creating even more alienation and disenchantment at a very local level.

Big decisions should go to a national vote. In Switzerland if 100,000 peope dont agree with a centralised decision, the whole population is then asked to vote on that topic . Now this seems allot closer to real democracy to me rather than the democracy peddled by our political parties, which is really authoratarism wrapped up under the banner of democracy.

Also this disease (ideology) of relativism (which Labour has caught badly) has to be purged out of the system.

What everyone seems to forget nowadays is that all 'new breed' politicians are 'career' politicians - so it doesn't matter what party they stand for - they are all tarred with the same brush - as we have learnt in recent months re the expenses scandal - they just want to feather their own nests!

Agree, they are all careerists. This just mirrors most of our society. He who has the most toys is the winner in todays game. We have been bred to become individualists with little sense of community.

From the ashes we need a new breed of leaders to evolve, those who are systemic in their understanding, selfless, eloquent, functional, egoless, brave perhaps even ruthless.

ilovecyprus, what you say is so right, with most of our policies now comming out of Europe, our MP's are not leaders, more like follow my leader! (game)Niether is there really anyone there at the moment that inspires me to think that we will be led out of this recession. I am a tory but would like to see them with a bit more fire in their belly......

Anybody who paid attention to what has happened with previous labour governments, who listened to what this lot were saying and looked to see what sort of people they were should net be surprised at the outcome when they were voted in.

What is truly astonishing about their immigration policy is that the people it did the most damage to were their own base constituency, the "working classes". Makes no sense at all.

The only UK politician that I ever had any respect for in my time was Paddy Ashdown.

People are told to read manifesto's to decide who to vote for................what a joke.

As already said they were scared to death to go for a referendum on the Lisbon treaty and they promised they would give us the vote, they should be tried for whatever law says they can not lie and cheat the British public.

They should resign NOW
