johnty - we personally know the owner of this bar. E-mailed him recently but haven't had a reply, as yet. Do you know whether he sold it?

Cheers.

Hi Liz - yes, I know. When they came out just after us last month, they came with one-way tickets and were not sure when they would be returning to UK. Have e-mailed them a couple of times, but, as I said, have not heard back. I'm assuming they have sold the bar???

Hope you and Guido are both well.

I was told last week the owner had been hit by a car and had broken a limb,so was unable to carry on at the bar. But if all equipment has been removed it looks a bit final.

Mindy and Lilli

When you say 'owner' do you mean Ronan - the manager? I do hope he's OK and not seriously hurt.

Unfortunately so many bars are working on a shoe string that if anything goes wrong they just cannot carry on. Another sign of our times.

I have had an email from Brian & Gill, who were the owners of Jafeica. They have never made any money in 15 months of owning the bar, in fact it has cost them more than a few thousand pounds. So Brian has cut his loses & given the keys back to the landlord. Yet another one bites the dust.

Very sad to here stories of this nature...

Paying on average £500 rent and selling beer at 4tl does not work...

600 hundred bottles of beer a month just to pay the rent !! Not taking into account all the other expenses involved in running a business...

We had coffee at cafe sheraz today in Girne. It was busy as usual. The cafe next door didn't have one

customer although it is very clean and modern looking. My only assumption is that Sheraz supply English newspapers for customers to read whilst eating lunch or drinking coffee.

To my mind, that's what attracts the people to their venue.

There are so many bars/restuarants on this Island, it must be an awful strain to make your bar/restuarant attractive to the public.

Maybe someone should start a topic on what would make you go to a particular bar, and why.

Are people perhaps beginning to realise that social life does not have to revolve around going to a bar? Is Eastenders with everyone in the Queen Vic or Coronation Street with it's Rovers Return true anymore? I don't think so. The cheap supermarket booze has a lot to answer for. People watch TV, play video games, surf the internet and drink at home. It's a lot cheaper. Is the cost of eating out and health reasons making it more attractive to eat at home?

ladylittle - as far as I am aware, they did not do meals, so wouldn't imagine so. I think it was only fridges etc.
