Very good pulloout on Northern Cyprus in the weekend section of Saturdays Times. Including a page on property issues. Probably the best report on Northern Cyprus I have seen in a British Newspaper, very upbeat. I should imagine that as soon as I post this there will be a procession of dismal jimmies slagin it off

Irene, I guessed it was you who put this on, Steve or Sarah as he likes to be called in the comfort of his own home, would never have been clever enough to do it

Paul

Sorry Steve, I could not resist.

Good article TRNC in a positive light

But the bit about the ambulances racing to the new crossing in a trial run have you seen the road there I was there last Monday and they are bad and dangerous for two way Traffic as there isn't room to pass without reversing up

If you do go to the crossing Vunni King excellent food sea bass king prawn and mezie 2 beers 50ytl

A very positive article for TRNC from, for once, a respectable newspaper. Items in The Times are generally read by the more level headed individuals, including politicians and just might have a very small influence. It certainly outlines the previous lunacy that has prevailed. Let's all hope that those who can influence the outcome take its contents on board.

Golden Beaches along with the rubbish? If they want to attract tourism something needs to be done.

If only that were true!!! It is more likely a "paid for" advert, not a true independant article. The two little words at the top of each page stating "advertising supplement" give it away, plus the journalists are not Times journalists they are indepent freelancer specialising in for instance property (Graham Norwood), and finance (Justin keay) etc etc.

Sorry to rain on your parade - but a newspaper like the times would never write an "article" about the TRNC like this.

Hi Snaefell

I have only just read it all myself - pleased that I was able to post the link - but thanks to Blackie for highlighting the supplement.

How is the IOM these days, I have visited once with Steve, but being a biker he has travelled many a time to the island for the TT races?

Re Msg 11... ""If only that were true!!! It is more likely a "paid for" advert, not a true independant article.""

My thoughts exactly, Just look at the adverts within the article. Thats why that article is in there!

If it was an independent article it would have the reporters name at the bottom/end.

Unspoilt natural beauty? They must mean the bit right at the very end of the panhandle with the unmade up road, the rock and two flags. It's about the only bit I've ever seen that isn't covered in a layer of litter and empty plastic bottles and cans and doesn't have newly built, half built and abandoned construction on it. Or zillions of property developer hoardings. The interview with the YAGA woman seems to be a bit out of date too, going by the way she is speaking about Bafra.

Another great half page article in the Times today (28/10/2009) promoting a last minute break to NC. Very positive indeed with a fabulous and enticing picture of Kyrenia harbour

This combines with the litter ,litter, litter thread.

Instead of paying tour operators and hoteliers a tourist head bounty ,why not pay the children a rubbish bag bounty.

This would increase tourism, as regardless of what some say ,I believe this is the No 1 reason for people not returning. People will go home and tell their friends about the Unspoilt North Cyprus.

Also would get the to kids see first hand the difference they were making .

The Govt could select a different beach every week and bus the children out, make a fun day of it,with some play involved.

During the week let the children fill their bin bags from the streets and pay for each bag handed over. You would need an adult to supervise ,so they didnt cheat and fill from wheely bins.

Would be much the same as having a paper round. Could even take off with kids from different areas looking after, and having a pride in ther own area ,Even have a cleanest street competition.
