Foggy, That's very unusual as a lot of our friends have been there and had a fab meal and a warm welcome.

Is the Grumpy Grouse now run by Ruth? If so I am amazed anyone would have been given that sort of welcome. I have been going to her restaurants since she set up in TRNC and have never had a cause to complain. What a pity if their customer service has gone down so much.

We are English and have using this bar for about 4 years.

For info, Alan is Scottish and his lovelly partner Ozge is Turkish.

If Alan said anything about watching English football, although he will have meant it, it will have been said in jest. There is always great banter here among the groups be it English, Scottish whatever.

I am sad to hear the poster did not feel welcome but next time you visit go to the bar and tell Alan that Hibernian are the pits, have a natter with him or better still talk to Ozge she is the brains in the partnership. We have learnt loads from Ozge about Turkey its politics and history, helps that she is an archaeologist!

foggy - no, you are not alone.

We used to stay at Kings Court before we got our own place and consequently used the bar quite a lot. We went in there (a few years ago now) not long after 'Alan' had taken it over. Unfortunately, we found him to be extremely unwelcoming and quite rude. Needless to say, we have never been back. Perhaps he was having an off day, but I have spoken to many others and they have the same opinion as us. I have never met his partner.

Been there loads of times and never had a bad experience having said that we were there about a month ago and we were sat outside eating when an engish bloke came out from the bar moaning like hell that he had been told to go outside and smoke as there is no smoking inside.

They are ruining this place he moaned puffing away at the side of our table so I politely told him he was ruining our meal with his filthy habit and asked him to move on,.... you can imagine the look he gave me !

Filthy disgusting unsociable habit that kills people who partake as well as those in close proximity It should be banned in every single place on the planet.

Since hes a Hibs supporter that will explain it.

They get hammered regularly, so thats why he'll have been grumpy.

Hey Foggie

Been here 4 years, Have tried asking in English bars out that end of town to show Scotland/Scottish football,

no Chance if England/English teams are playing. Does that make them bigots, Why call the man a bigot when you don,t know the man. I think he runs a great bar and serves some great home made food. The banter is good too, but a sense of humour required, not self importance on your part..

foggy , sense of humour lacking maybe? I run a bar for many a year, and found people liked faulty towers, but when it came to them, god forbid, they could never see the funny side!. Seems this is the case with you. On the positive side, you have just given alan more business, as I will make my way down there to see him. Oh, by the way, GRUMPY in the name?, perhaps you didnt see the funny side of that?. Seems a shame that you used your first post to try to damage his business and if not, then why didnt you bother to use your first post to say something positive about another establishment, seems you had one reason, and only one reason to join, to dis-credit their business!.Oh by the way, I dont know Alan from Adam, but soon will!

Couple of points on the "bigotory" theme.

Alan & Ozge do regular theme nights, yes you guessed St Andrews Day and Burns Night are key ones. But they also do St Georges Day.

All events are well attended with about 3/4 being English people attending. Have also seen an infamous Dutchman there many times.

Also, over the years various events organised by A & O have raised thousands of lira for charity.

Final point, Alan's mum is English!!!!!

Have a good week off both, looking forward to you being open during day for lunch.
