Hey there,

I am bringing the parents over and although we have eaten in many nice Restaurants in Kyrenia, I know my Dad would really appreciate a good, traditional Meal so that he can sample some real TRNC Hospitality..........

Any suggestions, I guess it would have to be Kyrenia or East of the Town and a nice, picturesque setting would be a perfect accompliment to a traditional menu / atmosphere.

Thanks so much

The Buffavento Restaurant up by Five Finger Mountain and opposite the turning for Buffavento is excellent for a traditional Turkish Meal and surroundings. Best to go during the day now though so that you can enjoy the fabulous views too.

Try the Archway in Zetinlik (probably need to book) or the Dreamcastle in Ozankoy.

Further east is Sultans, Catalkoy, or would you want to go even further east?

The question is, where can we find good TRNC traditional food, I don't know the answer to that question and have lived here for 7 years. All the reataurants mentioned serve kebabs etc which are Turkish. Kyrenia needs a restaurant that serves Cypriot food

I don't think you could get a more traditional Turkish meal than the home-cooked food prepared and served at the 'KYRENIA TAVERN' in Girne. Also known by some locals as 'Pasabache' restaurant. Address:

2 Turkmen Sokak, Tel: Girne 815 2799. Pre-booking essential. For more info about this hidden gem try TripAdvisor 'Kyrenia Restaurants' reviews. Hope this helps.

Went to the Archway two weeks ago, couldn't believe how pricey it's become and there weren't many customers. The full meze was 45tl and a glass of wine 9tl. They opened a third bottle of water even though we hadn't finished the second and tried to charge us for 3 bottles. I was really disappointed as it was always a restaurant that was one of my favourites.

Haven't been to Padisahs for a while but the food there was always good.

Would agree that Pasabache is excellent and the couple that run it are lovely. Apparently left behind a business in Limassol during the troubles and came here. Unfortunately not many people go there, although they really cannot do enough for you, and the garden setting is lovely too. When we asked for the menu one time, the lady answered 'I am the menu' and proceeded to tell us what she had cooked for that day. Excellent food, home made olive bread lovely.

We also used to like Padisah but have to say last time we went there in April this year - very, very disappointed and have not been back since, but maybe they were just having a bad night. Archway, yes, that is a lovely place, but as pointed out, it is expensive, but the food is good and the building itself whether you are inside or out, is lovely.

mrsgee (msg 8). 'unfortunately not many people go there...'

But they do! That's why it's essential to make a booking as table space is also limited. Word has got around the tourist grapevine about the Kyrenia Tavern and everyone I spoke to who'd been there said what a wonderful meal & evening they'd had - myself & friends included! Unbelievable how the place becomes an oasis of calm after the hubub of the day. We dined alfresco of course, in their garden area, which made it special but I guess they'll be moving everything indoors from now till next Spring and that really isn't the same experience.

Hi Sarahlou, we haven't got a traditional menu, but we do have a great atmosphere and setting. We are The Old Grapevine just up from the Coloney hotel, in Kyrenia. We have an ala carte menu, and recently we have jazz music being played on a Tuesday and Friday evening.

We may not be what you are looking for, but we do have a great menu and we are set in a lovely courtyard which makes for the amazing atmosphere.

If you would like more details you can email me at oldgrapevine@yahoo.co.uk or call us on 0392 815 2496

I hope you and you parents have a lovely holiday. x

It has been a couple of years since we were last there - and we were the only ones in there. Glad to hear therefore that the message is getting around - they deserve to do well. We will certainly visit again, it is a lovely place and she is a very good cook

I agree about Kyrenia Tavern, 7 of us went in August, it was the best meal ever and even the 3 children enjoyed everything they had. What a lovely couple.

Padisah---excellent food was there last week (behind the fire station around from post office)

Old Grapevine---pricey but food good with very cypriot traditional feel to it.

Secret terrace also known as Tanners bar---traditional Cypriot food very good (neighbours of mine at Karakum, take turning on left just after Marshalls DIY sign follow down to sea)

Cenap---by far the best, book to avoid disapointment

Cenaps in Alsancak every time - Grapevine, Archway, etc. are all very good restaurants - but if you want an excellent, traditional turkish Meze in the village then Cenaps is the one!!

HAVE FUN!!

Our best traditional meal we have had is Buffavento. Fantastic food and views, also very friendly and attentive service by all the staff.
