My friend had a brown four legged hairy insect in her home. As you do due to the size she hit it with a book and out of its then heaped back came out at least 50miniture insects of the same kind. Does anyone know what these are and a picture of one if poss.

Your friend's insect is almost certain to be the 'Cyprus Greater Bloated Queen Sandfly', which when 'blatted', flies to bits, producing prodigious numbers of micro-offspring - genetically cloned, incubated and subsequently released with controlled methodology (by the government Department of Scientific & Industrial Research) to be of maximum irritation to foreign residents and tourists in order to deter their presence upon these hallowed shores.

My friend was sunbathing on the beach in TRNC and when he got home that night his neck had swollen, the following morning he had a lump the size of a balloon. he went to the doctor the following day and the doctor said it was your glands do not worry.

The next day it burst and out came hundreds of little Spiders. UUggh

Did he have the presence of mind to keep these entomological marvels and evenly disburse them all around the offices of deserving estate agents, developers and advocates?

If so, this effective remedy would immediately render Richard's 'Bazooka' utterly redundant!

A picture of said insect would be helpful...your description isn't very helpful...i'm guessing it was giving birth at the time it was blatted...have her trawl through websites till she finds one that looks like it....

Maybe it was peckish and ate 2 of her own legs, seeing as she had a bellyful of young to feed.

Preying mantis I know have 6 legs but use front as claws for grabbing and holding the prey, so would like having four legs only. No answer for the multiple births though.............

Seen HUGE praying mantis in Napa - sitting on the backs of the chairs in the dining rooms! I think they look rather stately and wise.

I didn't know cockroaches could fly until I moved to Cyprus. I do now - they can fly right into a fourth floor apartment.

Hate them with a vengeance. I believe cats are the only real answer. They kill them.

Oleandar....

Something to share....

Was in Gran Canaria a few years ago and went to a Cabaret evening, the singer had on a white shirt and the flourescent light highlighted it to the extreme as we all know from the 80's, anyway he was walking around the audience singing to them and suddenly this big dark object flew on to the singers shoulder and started crawling. I am not exaggerating when I say it was 2 inches long by at least an inch wide........

Maybe doesn't sound big but it stood out as I explained being under flourescent light. My sister and I was mesmerised as the singer got nearer to us, we just wanted to get as far away as possible, he must of thought we were in awe of him, not exactly. My Sister piped up, 'You've got a massive big cockroach on your arm, with that he just slapped it away and we were having kittens not knowing where it had gone. I hate the 'Canaries' My Mum's phrase whenever the Canaries were mentioned was 'oohh Cockroach Islands' never again.....

Msg.1

Sounds like a Cockroach the female who is larger than the male carries her eggs or offsprings, the eggs which look like Mercury , if attacted or stamped on releasing her offspring /eggs 100s of them..... so you end up having a small "Woodstock" gig in your villa never stamp on a Cockroach they wil spread in your place.. A Cockroach flys true they jump into a wind therefore glieding to find new areas..

Haaa! (Mind you, I'd have died!) I had a similar experience at a 'Greek Evening' in Limassol about 8 yrs ago. The restaurant was tightly packed and it was difficult to leave your seat at the long heavy wooden tables. It was quite dark in there too. I was just trying to make out what some of the Mezze dishes were, when a huge cockroach plopped down onto the table.

First one I'd ever seen in Cyprus then. I sort of 'shrieked' and tried to get up, that started my daughter off (she was sat the other side of the table and well 'hemmed in'. Well ... what can I say, it was like someone had shouted 'FIRE!' lol! Everyone was then trying to get up and half of them didn't know why!

I couldn't eat any of it then, and sat 'sidesaddle' on the bench after that with the long skirt of my dress wound so tightly round my legs it was almost cutting off the blood supply. Because some 'helpful soul' had just brushed the thing off the table! Argh!
