Thank you all very much for somewhat allaying my fears regarding my move to Alsancak. I know that there are some negative comments but on the whole some good things have been said. I am retired and have visited the Girne area a few times so fortunately (or unfortunately) realise that red lights and stop signs don't necessarily mean anything to the locals! I have done the Larnaca to Girne drive a few times and apart from the detour through Nicosia for the border it is a pretty good drive. Yes, I have a cousin in Larnaca but a lot different in the South of course. Hence my request for some feedback regarding the North.

I shall be looking to join some local groups, interests include music, dance, theatre, arts, history, etc. so any pointers in that direction would be good. Thanks again for all the replies.

You need to tap into the famous "Dutch Crusader" for history & chess club

I'm sure he will be of help.

Alsancak is a lovely village, it's a shame they've modernised the roads though, I actually liked it as it was.

Try viisting the buyuk han in Lefcosia, the blue house, (mavi kosk) on the way to Camnibel, St hillarion

castle, Girne castle, Bellepaise Abbey, that should do you for starters, very historical.
