Morning nurse, I have long been a supporter of capital punishment but only after all avenues and appeals have been exhausted. Paedophiles should just be shot.

Catalkoykid. I couldn't agree with you more but unfortunately the UK segregate these people which in itself is wrong as they are all put together in one block so they can exchange their filthy ideas. In 1994 I spent a day in Shotts Prison in Lanarkshire as part of a sociology / Psychology course I was doing. I was taken round to meet some of the prisoners but was not told which category prisoners were in each block until after the tour. I commented on the fact that in one block there seemed to be very young well educated men. Yes you have got it correct these were the sex offenders. The facilities in this prison are second to none with state of the art gym and library. It must cost a fortune to keep these people in the way that they probably have never been accustomed to in the past. They actually tried to sue the Scottish office a few years ago for giving them mince and potatoes at Xmas time!! Unless the UK radically change their laws nothing will change!

Hey, Kavenkoy/Msg 7: - only after they've been birched 'within an inch of their lives' and castrated in public first! Put that on 'Prime Time' TV as a warning - then hear the 'do-gooders' whinge!

I hope child sex offenders here get the punishment they deserve. A close family CHILD member has very recently been raped, Life inside jail, we will see, i hope he sufferes as he has made a child suffer. Strongly believe sex offenders should be handed to the victims family, Then they would no pain and suffering, i can think of many things i would do to him to make him suffer, his privates would be cut of first. No other child would suffer ever again, if he didn't have his 'privates' JAIL is too good for them

I think that life should mean life, not just for murder, but for "incurable" offenders such as paedophiles. I have read that castration does not actually stop them from offending, so is this - although understandable, more of a "revenge" thing? With regards to capital punishment - I do not believe in it. It is easier to say "bring back hanging" etc but who will be the hangman? I wouldn't be able to deliberately kill another human being. Far better to be made to work - physically hard for your very BASIC food allowance, no TV or gyms etc - and knowing you wil NEVER mix in society again would be - in my opinion a far worst punishment than death.

Message 10 I can emphathise with you totally. Our family too has been affected by this absolutely disgusting crime. The perpetrator got just 2 and a half years. one and a half years less than he put his victim through. It has ripped our family apart, something I never envisaged at the outside. I was concentrating on the victim's welbeing, but i would appear that my brother and my mother supported the perpetrator, and have visited him in prison. What an absolute disgrace. I cannot, and will not be associated with these people who believe this little girl at 8 years old was at fault! They should also be serving a prison sentence. I will never speak to them as long as I live. This is one of the worst crimes. Worse than murder, to take a child's innocence away is abhorent. To abuse your position of trust is unthinkable. It should be zero tolerance. What the fook are these judges on? Bring back the death sentence for these evil people.

Tara I have to agree, To take away the innonce of a child beggars belief. Im sorry for your pain. They get off so lightly. Human rights WHAT they take them all away from the people you live with it.They may get a sentance but that poor child lives with it and takes it into his her relationships in the future. TRUST goes away xxxxxxxxxxxx

msg 11, adagirl: You don't believe in capital punishment. You think that sentencing them to hard labour for the rest of their lives, in your opinion, a far worse punishment than death, would work. Where would you keep these people with no hope? Who would be stupid enough to monitor them, for any amount of money? Hard labour means giving them tools, tools that would be used as weapons. Capital punishment is the only sensible ultimate deterrent, even if it only deters those who suffer it. Tony

Well, I tend to favour capital punishment but when capital punishment was abolished there was a distinct increase in the tendancy for juries to hand in guilty verdicts. It seems that with capital punishment juries baulked at the idea of actually "killing" people and let them off, in many cases to kill again. So, how do we get round that one?

mess. 18 The only way would be to allow the would be jurors the right to decline trying a capital case (I would decline for instance). But what would make a capital case? Most people say yes to killing paedophiles, who else (what crime) would be on the list? All murders? At what age would someone be eligible for the death penalty? Remember the boys who tortured and murdered James Bulgar? Would they qualify? This is why I am against the death penalty, where does it begin and end? In some middle eastern countries - the family give the go-ahead for death, would this be a rational option?

Peadophiles, once they have been found guilty should have a brand put on their forehead with a great big letter P so that everybody knows what they are. They should have no 'human rights' at all, they should be put in prison with hardened criminals and once they have finished with them they should have no creature comforts at all. They think nothing of what they do or have done to children or what effect it has on them for the rest of their lives. They are the worst kind of people on this earth.
