pussycatuk,

We don't complain about bars staying open late, just the noise of, so called, second rate, workingmens clubs, singers who think they are fantastic, coming from them. Or worse, karaoke singers who "want to be the next big thing" and sound like a cat in fight.

If a pub wants to serve drinks till the sun comes ups, that's fine, as drinking and conversation doesn't make a lot of noise that can be hundreds of metres away.

J2R,

Then you missed out on the Karaoke at Bar 11, or you could have called into the Fez as they don't close till midnight (unless everyones gone home).

Tim

Thanks for the tip but not into Karaoke.

I looked from the road to the FEZ and it looked dark last night at 11pm. I know about Bar 11 but unfortunately witnessed a fight about 5 weeks ago and not wanted to go back since, however the upstairs looks more up market than downstairs I have to say, so may give it another go, hoping the thugs stay round the pool table.

TC,

up to now you have my sympathy with the noise problem you experience from the Bar 11, I sincerely hope it gets sorted and that some compromise can be reached to suit all concerned.

However I do take exception to your remarks about Karaoke singers and working mens clubs.

I get a lot of pleasure from singing and before you react to that I have not sang at the Bar11 YET!!. it is a social gathering for people that like a bit of fun.

Your disparaging remarks will not strengthen your case quite the opposite I would guess, keep your eye on the ball and target your insults and complaints to the management of the establishment.

I really do hope it gets sorted, just tread carefully, sometimes insults can backfire and attract more of what you do not want.

Derek,

You may get pleasure from doing Karaoke, but does the audience? Or are they just having a good laugh at your expense? Without hearing you personally sing, but having been to many karaoke nights, I feel justified in the way I described those who pertain to "entertain" me with their wabblings. Nails down a blackboard usually sounds a whole lot nicer to me.

And who was the last Karaoke singer to make it big?

TC,

That is a seriously funny reply, you really made me laugh, and you could be right about people laughing at me and my wabblings !! but then I don't do it to entertain I do it for a bit of FUN.

Now then lets get down to business,

VENUE BAR 11,

gottheyips V TimothyCadman

Wabbler takes on Comedian

Time 2359hrs til Late.

Seriously though TC, I genuinely sympathise with your plight , but as I indicated before when you are on a crusade you need recruits not enemies the insults will do you no favours.

Derek.

PS, I'll get back to you on your question about Karaoke singers making it big. I suspect you are in for a shock.

Hi All,

I feel Timothy presented his case fairly, and with due consideration to the bar owners.

Is it really difficult to be fair and balanced, and show understanding to your neighbours

point of view. A closind song for the night!! Give peace a chance!

i find karaoke entertaining and a bit of fun Simon Cowell has earnt some serious money out of an upmarket version of karaoke and i would like to bet that 95% of the people that appear on the X Factor have at some point in life have performed at a karaoke night Will Young for example and look where he ended up, i have seen a lot of people over the years who given the right breaks and training could earn a living from singing even if it is only being a backing singer, we might find an international superstar in the making at one of the karaoke nights held on the island would the rest of the world recognise our little community in the med if this were to happen

JamesB,

During my working life in the UK it was customary for team members to go out and socialise. For me this was the worst aspect of a job. A night in front of the telly with a loved one in ones arms was a lot more preferential. In the early 90's karaoke was everywhere and we usually ended up in a pub where this form of "entertainment" was on.

Many of my colleagues, and others, would make idiots of themselves trying, in their druken state, to belt out the lastest number 1 hit record, or rework a classic or standard song in a style that did not suite it.

Only once did I ever do Karaoke, and that was to Nessun Dorma. The place was silent and the applause at the end was deafening. I'm no Pavarotti and on my own scale of 1 to 100, I barely scrapped 75 but then again I had not prepared myself correctly for the evening to sing.

It also didn't help that I was a classically trained singer and violin player, I have a BA in Music from Birmingham University. Understanding music, and its part in our emotions, is part of the course.

On the Karaoke issue of bad singers. I am a DJ who does Karaoke nights here in NC and I have to say that the talent that is out there is quite unbelievable. People even turn up with their own backing tracks!!! Singing at Karaoke nights has done me a favor as I now get booked to sing rather than do the Karaoke nights. Perhaps I will have to organise an X-Factor contest. So if anyone would be interested let me know. If enough people show an interest then I will organise it. I must admit I have not DJ'd at Bar 11 simply because I have heard of all the trouble down there. I would rather stick with the Alyinkaya. On that note, keep an eye out soon for the adverts for another opening night down there. They are going to open the roof terrace all summer. Big screen Karaoke will be on there by yours truly with over 8,500 songs to choose from.

So get in touch if ou want to be part of Cyprus X-Factor.

Hi Andy P nice to see you again wondered where you had gone seen, and spoke to you on several occasions in Bar 11 dont go of what you hear i get the feeling a lot of people on this island get very jelous of the way bar 11 is proffesionaly run consequently getting a lot of custom (110 for last nights karaoke) and it hasnt been advertised yet. Regarding the x factor have a word with the guy who sorts the music and entertainment out at bar 11 he has been putting together an x factor show for a few months which i belive is starting in the middle of june and will run for 10 weeks and they have a lot of people signed up already, it would appear that before he came to live in the TRNC he was a club and radio dj in Manchester for 35 years its no wonder Reg looks after him. If you like a game of golf a new golf society has been formed at the bar anyone interested call to the bar and ask for Alan

"No advertising yet". Not quite accurate. Half page advert in Cyprus Today, inside back page, on edition dated 26th April to 2 May. Quater page advert in Cyprus Today, dated 3rd May to 9th May. Large sign on the main road advertising what's on each day. Very large banner in Catalkoy centre.

Bar 11, that's used by the rift raft of Catalkoy, not for me, been there once needs a total revamp, to attract Quality Customers, that place looks like a Large Garden Shed and it is next door to a Cemetry.

Kicker i wish i had a garden shed like this i will have to find out who built it there may be a market out there

Hi Andy Its Altinkaya I think , will you be driving back or getting a cab. Andy ive heard you sing , you just cant, Sara's got a nice voice, but its best if you stick to the DJ bit I remember you saying in January that you were going to take the island by storm, still waiting! You are talking rubbish about Bar 11 you tried to get work there you told me so your self, Have you heard the resident singer they have now, I go to Bar 11 a couple of times a week, this guy can sing he is one of the best i have heard here. I think bar 11 has obviously taken a lot of custom, it is succesful and thats why its a talking point,I had a very succesful company in UK it was aggresivley advertised , it had just the same impact as Bar 11, its known as englishmans disease, its called jealousy, cant do it yourselves, so lets have a pop at anyone who can.

Thanks for the insult. If I were that bad how come I am now booked throughout the summer every weekend!!! I do what I enjoy and it was not my idea to become a singer, it's what the punters aked for, so thats what they get. Yes, I agree Sara has a great voice but lacks the confidence but just wait and see. Perhaps, rather than be so critical prove you are better.

Yes a typo on the Atinkaya name and if that comment about driving or cab was anything to do with the accident we had recently. Go shove it where the sun don't shine. For the record I was not driving that night and how many on here have not had one for the road when they shouldn't.

Anyway, I did not post my comment on here to get insulted and have I ever insulted you??? Why? Because that is not what I do so why you felt you had to do that to me is anyones guess. Perhaps like you said an englishmans disease (jealousy), which you must be suffering from. I thought this forum was surposed to be constructive.

As far as saying about trouble at Bar 11 to quote what I said which was "I have heard of all the trouble down there". That did not say that I witnessed any, only that I had heard of a some. You only have to look through the forums with anything that mentions Bar11 and someone is always saying about trouble.

For the record I do occasionally drink during the day at Bar11 as it is great if you have kids.

That is all I have to say on the matter!!

BTW. Hi Tufty, yes still about.

Hi Andy nice to hear you are ok after the bad accident which i am told was not your fault I have to agree with Joe Bob re the singer at Bar 11 he can sing almost any song and i believe the dj there has been pursuaded to come out of retirement and has done great things with the music there and his 5 minute request lots of people try to catch him out because if he doesnt play your record within 5 minutes of your time you get a free drink keep up the good work there are a lot of bars on the island and not enough entertainers

Hi Andy, hands up I Apologise for the remark about the singing, but when you go on here and blatanly advertise where you are working at then you must expect a reaction, and you should be a little bit more modest about your own talents. No the remark about the cab home was simply an observation of the state you have been in when you have left a few bars, and yes lots of us are guilty, and there for the grace of god go I. if it seemed to give you the wrong message then I also apologise for that. And yes you are right this should be a consructive site, but it just seems to be a case of like i said a few people having a pop at a succesful bar. No I dont have Englishmans disease, somtimes envious, but not jealous, take my hat off to anyone who gets off their butt and does somthing, With regards to your accident ,just glad that you are both OK, been looking allday and couldnt find anywhere that the sun didnt shine, its been a glorious day, Thats why im here along with lots of other good positive reasons, OK so Sara lacks a bit of confidence you say but thats better than being cocky, lots of very big stars have lacked confidence, and very often they come over as much nicer people, and still make it, Anyway im off i need a beer, ,

Hi Joe Blob

This is the one problem when things are written rather than said. They can be taken the wrong way. So apology accepted. I suppose criticism is a good thing but hard to take, especially first thing monday morning!!! Definately, keep me on my toes.

Yes, have been in a state when left a few bars and probably over cocky when in that state!!! Then again, you need to be sometimes just to survive over here. All I try to do is work hard and feed the family. Perhaps my over confidence has upset people in the past but things have changed. That accident makes you rethink things and it's been a hard uphill battle to get back out on the scene, just glad to be alive.

I will have to get down to see this singer at Bar11. Whats his name? Always good to see what you are up against. Especially if they are that good and hopefully this will prove we do not have a problem with Bar11. It's good that it is a success. Not an easy task over here!! Hope to see you all there soon.
