Yep! I'm in Malatya baking a sun-dried tomato and basil loaf even as I type this. They are so easy you wouldn't believe it. 5 minutes to load the ingredients (not a kit) and then a 2hrs 35 minute wait for the loaf to be ready.

Thanks for input, that sounds yummy, so after you put in ingredients, are they mixed together automatically.

Bread Makers must be the best kitchen gadget ever. Use mine all the time except in summer as the bread does not keep more than a day due to the heat. The ONLY drawback I have found using one here is the chance of a power cut. So I always have to be at home when we can then switch the generator on if there is a cut. In UK I used to set it on timer and awake to the smell of fresh bread but once again here in Cyprus I cannot do that in case there is a power cut.

Go ahead and buy one...you will not regret it. I have the Panasonic one and there are many recipes for different breads plus cakes and even dough for pizzas! Happy baking!!!!

We have a morphy Richards catalogue in-store at Botanica (Çatalköy). All the products are priced in TL the breadmaker is 279 tl. There maybe other makes/prices around but I am not sure.

I would like one but I don't think I could eat enough to warrant one!! I sometimes make olive bread (by hand) which I love, especially visually "who" I am bashing while kneading the dough!!!

Hi everyone

We have a breadmaker and use the breadmixes here with varying results. Could anyone share some recipes for brown, wholemeal or Olive Bread and wholemeal pizza base. Thank you!

We have a breadmaker, my husband uses it all the time. A recipe book comes with the machine with lots of ideas in. You can also buy packets of mix that you just tip in the machine and it does it all for you.

msg 12, "why make bread when the bread here is so fresh and cheap"

I prefer whole wheat with something added, e.g. herbs, sun-dried tomatoes etc and it's difficult to find that kind of bread here.

We have a breadmaker which makes the most amazing loaves. Ver easy, just throw in the mix, set the timer and off you go. Waking up to the smell of freshly baked bread - luvvly jubbly. Ours is a Panasonic and cannot rate it high enough.

I too have a Panasonic bread maker and wouldn't be without it although I have heard other makes are not so good. I just throw the ingredients in and the loaf always comes out great.

Try using mixes of the white flour and some of the packet mixes to get a mixed grain bread.

Although the local bakeries do make a mouthwatering range of bread, there are a few items that I occasionally find myself 'hankering after' - (Pedants! - should that read: 'there are a few items, after which I occasionally find myself hankering? ).

Anyway...

Bagels!

You still have to shape, boil in sugared water, and do the final bake by hand, but the delights of a toasted bagel.... mmm...

Also loaves with toasted sunflower seeds etc. encrusted into the surface - particularly when sliced and popped into the toaster and buttered...

Malted bread is another - although the only source of Malt syrup seems to be UK health food shops :(

Don't get me wrong, I love the local food (including the bread) but even when I lived in UK, I liked to have a wide diversity of food to choose from, (PEDANTS!, 'from which to choose'???) not JUST local varieties, and if you can use a bit of ingenuity (aided by technology!) I'm all for it.

Use fresh ingredients + dried milk (because of the heat) lov

I will be off this week to search for a Bread maker. Pop life in Greekside stock some. Also Carrefour. Although the local bread is yummy when fresh, if not eaten same day is only good for toasting, in my opinion. Also we prefer wholemeal but the local brands are similar to sawdust. personal opinion of course.

Hi

I have and use a bread-maker I have the Panasonic and have had it for a few years the bread tastes very good = weight gain as you do eat more i use mine overnight as then you wake up to nice fresh bread that is still warm

Even the packets of ready mixed flours are good I cannot speak for other makes but would think they are all roughly the same best to buy a bit bigger capacity than you think in case of visitors

you can in my one make many more things than bread try looking them up on manufacturers web site and see if you can get a sneak preview of the recipe books

Okay, all you expert breadmakers, you have convinced me to consider purchasing a breadmaker but I need your help as this will be a first for me. What advice would any of you give me?

What should I look out for?

What should I avoid?

Thank you

I went on Argos website to look at breadmakers, they vary in price obviously, the Panasonic models look all singing all dancing, prices from 20 pounds to 100 pounds plus.

If you look on site it gives details on each model. Might bring one back in January in suitcase. Unless I can find one reasonably priced in Cyprus. Can't wait to get baking.

Hi

I bought mine through Ebay I had looked up as i had said what they did and compared that to what i wanted it to do

Mine i will admit is an all bells and whistles panasonic which new was 150 odd pounds but many are for sale on ebay from people who buy them then dont use them so sell within 6 months as they are quite large

For TRNC i would think reliability is the first thing to look at also what manufacturers spares are easily gotten hold of is another consideration then the thing its self what do you want it to do just bake bread? or bread with dates, nuts, ect do you want all sorts of different crusts do you want it to just prove the dough for you to then shape rolls?

Thats the sort of thing I would be thinging about and also can you use ebay?

Sue, try the goodhousekeeping website for info on bread makers.

I prefer to use mine on the dough setting and bake in the oven, I can control it better + I can shape the bread how I like, make 2 smaller loaves or rolls.

Ileli in Alsancak have powdered milk and Starling now have wholemeal flour. Whoppee!

It is a fallacy that bread makes you put weight on. White bread is just a 'filler', with very little nutritional value and a high G.I. count (which means it is digested quickly - which makes you eat more, which then makes you put on weight. Oat/Rye and whole meal/grain breads are an excellent source of vitamins, minerals and fibre.

Its the full fat cheese and mayo that makes you fat!

Mrs Snakes - basil is an annual and is just dying off at the moment unfortunately. Fresh basil must be coming in from a market gardener who sows all the year round, so have to look for it,. I freeze mine, just pop sprigs as they are into FOIL and fold loosely and pop in freezer - much better than dried - just get a sprig out when needed and crumble into mix.

I have a breadmaker but in the move I somehow lost the measure cup that comes with it. Can anyone tell me if the measure cup that comes with the machine is the same as the 1 cup measure.

I love my breadmaker and have enjoyed experimenting with it and making some delicious breads. I am going to check out the website as well. thanks

I certainly like to make bread here but I have a problem. I don't seem to be able to source the strong white flour needed for "English" style bread, here in the TRNC. I have to get it from the south.

If there is a TC alternative I would like to hear about it. Maybe I'm just not recognising it here.

msg 54,

Just use 'Buğday Unu' (wheat flour) - I find it is plenty strong enough (enough gluten) to make acceptable 'Englis' bread.

I was given one as a present by youngest son and family and I do use it at home

but mostly for making naan bread. You just choose the dough recipe and roll them

out, cook few mins. under very hot grill. They have proved very popular at B.B.Q's

There is also a recipe for pizza base. I always use fresh ingredients, flour, yoghurt,

yeast etc.

not read thru the messages but when I make bread

1. Put half pack of dried yeast is warm water with 1tsp sugar. Leave to go frothy

2. Use Extra flour, a good drizzle of oil, salt. Mix with the yeasty water to get a sticky consistency.

3. Leave until doubled in size, then knead.

4. Perfect for pizza at this stage or put in a loaf tin or make rolls

Mike

We rarely eat white bread, and I have yet to find a wholemeal loaf here that doesn't taste like sawdust or crusts are rock hard, so thats why I would love a Breadmaker especially to make basil and sun dried tomato bread.
