Is it my imagination or are the power cuts actually getting more frequent, I remember reading the quote by the Energy Minister in Cyprus Today that they would be a thing of the past once the new generator went in which was done at the back end of last year.

Does anyone know what is causing these power cuts it seems as soon as we have a bit of rain its straight off.

I agree PMF68, we had about 8/9 hours off no power in a 12 hour period yesterday. It's a bloomin pain in the proverbial.

I dont know what is causing them but I do know that yesterdy where I live we had 6 power cuts in one day! Absolute rubbish! Like you say, they seem to be getting more frequent and for longer periods of time too! Should be interesting to hear the excuses......................maybe leaves on the line etc etc!!!

In Esentepe the power went off about 4.45am yesterday and was then up and down all day but on for no more than 2 hours at a time, frequently coming on for about 2 seconds. So I guess they were having real problems, maybe the unrelenting rain got in somewhere.

No problems here in Alsancak, had one for half an hour last week and that was the first one in ages.

RE msg 7, AJ: (...) No problems here in Alsancak, had one for half an hour last week and that was the first one in ages. (...)

=> Exactly. It has been a good year re: electricity problems. When compared to five years ago (power cuts being an almost daily fact of life) it has almost been perfect. I think we should remember that all electricity infrastructure in TRNC is above ground and thus prone to bad weather conditions, completely out of Kib-Tek control. Why not look at it in a more positive way?

Usually Esentepe is not too badly affected, e.g. we didn't have the 36 hour one a few years ago at Christmas plus it's a lot better than when we used to live in Alsancak 4 years ago. We quite enjoy power cuts (as long as they aren't too long) and get out the cards, board games, books, play charades, etc. Not forgetting the candles...

Maybe it has something to do with the large number of electric storms over the last week!!!!!!!!!!

Remember, it happened in England too, anytime we had electric storm we went off, guaranteed.

So please think before knocking Kib Tec etc, nature is out of their control. Especially as DC states above, most of the infra structure here is above ground.

PMF68

There maybe a lot of construction electrical hook up's going on in your area which will obviously require isolation from the grid. The other problem is with kib-tek having to upgrade infrastructure to cater for increased power requirements. Even where I live (a plot of 4 villas) the existing poles and associated hardware had to be replaced once the villa electrical installations had been approved and assessed. Dont always blame kib-tek.

hi I live lapta and last night power went off at about 11pm and never came on till around 9am

infact until last week we had'nt had any power cuts for 2 month guess with the rain it has caused problems intend to invest in a small generator to beat the system

AJ,How many times have you seen Kibtek come out and connect houses up the the grid on a Sunday?

The fact is every time it rains east of the golf course then we get power cuts.Of course it's Kibtek's fault, something is obviously wrong.
