In the (not so) good old days one could play "postcard-chess". When you played someone, let's say in Australia, it could take weeks before your opponent's move would be delivered by the mailman and weeks again and weeks again etc. With the introduction of the Internet it has all changed for the better. You can now play chess on line and it only takes a split second to see your opponent's move (he/she may live in China, Alaska, Cuba etc)! There are many usually free on line chess websites - just give your rating (if you have one), pick an opponent and there you go. You don't have to speak his/her language because the annotation will be done by the website's software. If you are interested, have a look here: http://www.google.com/search?q=chess%20on%20line&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8

Don't forget the meeting of the Alsancak Chess Club, every Tuesday afternoon from 2 pm, at Guido's Bistro in Alsancak (almost opposite the Bronze Lady)!
