Miss my family too much, but go back at least 3 or 4 times for 3 or 4 weeks at a time. Hardest part is missing grandchildren grow.

Mindy - absolutely right. Left TRNC and am now only 2 hours from mine. Going to see them in a couple of weeks. Yeah!

Very happy happy happy in TRNC.......but have to say it depends on your outlook, if your glass is always half empty instead of half full maybe best to stay in UK. Miss grandchildren, yes, but they soon grow up and have their own lives - we have chosen to live our own lives not those of the children....so, here we are and very nice it is too!

Whatever your mindset, surely peace of mind as to security, relationships and money must play a massive part?

If you are in a property that either you rent (so no worries re ownership, mortgage etc etc) or own with Turkish title, no builders mortgage and you have the kocan in your name, have electric in your name, water supply, a road and no disputes with neighbours; have excellent health; a good circle of friends and family; no legal problem, and sufficient money/income not to have to worry about the drop in interest rates or rise in cost of living. Then I'm sure you have the basis for a good life in NC. Not have one or more of those and life can quickly turn sour.

The hardest part for me was thinking I was starting a new life backfired. Its all down to bad luck. Now I have to work hard to exist here but do not get me wrong I have met some of the loveleist people here and try to put the bad luck \decisions behind me. Hardest part as with most my grandchildren but working on that xxxxxxx

We love it here and when the grandchildren come out (if ever) we will have loads of quality time with them. When in the UK we only saw them briefly at weekends as we both worked.

Anyone not star struck will know that this place, like everywhere else, has lots of pro points and lots of anti! Most of the time, I really love it here. (Most of) the locals here are great, the scenery is wonderful, social life good...

Yes, you guessed it, there is a large BUT!

At present this is not a REAL country: most of the local TCs are only a generation away from small, only just livable farming. They have little idea of what a government - (any government here, I am not political) should actually do. Consequently, finances are appalling, which leads to cost of living (which was wonderful 5 years ago, when we came,) now leaves us struggling to manage on our UK state pension. Exchange rate down, interest on savings down, electric at least tripled in cost....etc.....etc.

I not-so-humbly suggest that this is, at present, a flawed state. But if Turkey annexes us... WOW, then it WILL be a lot nearer to paradise..

Despite all the builder problems that we have had, we think moving out here is the best move that we have made. Weather's great, food is fresh & plentiful and living over here reminds me of living in a large village with a much slower pace of lifestyle that in the UK. We are always aware that we are living in 'someone else's country' and as a result our glass is always full.

message 17 Cyprusgiant - a likeminded person, how refreshing.........my glass is also full at the moment - white wine, and very nice it is too. Good point yes, we are in someone else's country, we are the foreigners and I think it is always easier to try and fit in by learning the language and befriending locals. OK so it's not perfect here, but where is? There are lots worse places - and at least it has stopped raining here (for now) my granddaughter tells me it is bucketing down in UK!!

Oh supermaids, what do you miss about Uk? (apart from family and friends I mean)

I miss the condensation running down the windows every morning, the traffic jams on the A12 and M25,

the queues in the supermarkets at Easter and Christmas. Trying to find a parking space in any town car park,

and the charges. (once i asked the attendant, tongue in cheek, how long the lease for my parking space was for, lol)

Mmmmmm ?????

It is sooooo nice to see so many happy people posting on here, there is so much negativity sometimes - and yes, I think that most of us are aware of the problems, but good to see some, like us, focus on the good things not the bad, you learn to live with the bad and adore the good!
