It doesn't seem that long ago that Cyprus spuds were held in the same regard as good old Jersey's. So why is it that I can't find a decent spud anywhere in the Karaoglanoglu/Alsancak/Lapta/Karsiyake area? A bar owner I know went to his usual supplier in Nicosia yesterday and came back with nowt, he said that the quality was bloody awful and the price of what passed as edible was north of 2.5tl per kilo. He is quite literally thinking of closing his kitchen because of this. Any explanations anyone?

Mr B - I read somewhere on this forum that the wet, and hence, the soggy, earth, was making it difficult to lift the spuds? We really should stop 'agreeing' - 'People Will Say We're In Love'. Can't be bothered to post it via utube - am too tired. Jean

And why am I always given that horrible orange concentrate stuff when I ask for fresh orange juice in the TRNC? What do they do with the oranges? Stayed at a hotel in Lapta recently and most hotel guests brought their own cartons into the breakfast room with them!

It has long been suspected that all the good local produce is shipped to the mainland. Might explain why the stuff in the shops is so awful.

In cyprus the potato is crafted on to a orange tree,so being wet does not matter.

I cant say much about the tatties although they dont seem quite as tasty as I remember. Oleander I agree with you about "fresh orange juice" - for a "country" thats main produce is oranges why cant we see quality orange juice on any of the supermarket shelves???

I asked the question over 6 years ago, and was told that it is too expensive to pick and process the oranges. I don't even know if they have a juicing factory here?
