Was moved to see Sgt Schmids return home yesterday.For all the slagging the UK gets on here, its worth remembering we still produce men like this , who risk their lives every day,to save others. Also women like his wife who so bravely watched his return home.

I have a soft spot for bomb disposal and medics.



For all the 1508 personnel from UK and our Nato allies who have perished . We salute you.

girne 29 yes Sgt Schmids wife was so so brave yesterday.



Please don't forget that we also have females serving in our Armed Forces out in Afghanistan not just men!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, I meant men like this because the subject was a man.

As you say, women also serve .Thats why I did say"personnel".

I think in the US army women are in front line fighting units.

In the British Army they are forbidden to operate in situations where they might 'close in and kill the enemy', less for women themselves but more for men around them,but this means little in the likes of Afghanistan and I believe the first British woman killed there was killed on an intelligence mission.

Don't forget the RAF there are female aircrew on the helicopters
