I would just like to publicly thank each and every person who came along to the memorial service yesterday for your support. On top of the 400 relatives and veterans who were sat in the enclosure there were at least the same amount stood watching as well. I think that the service was a fitting tribute and an emotional day which brought closure for many loved ones. The sight of so many wreaaths in a sea of red was for me a very moving experience and the top lip was quivering at on point. The BBC link did not come to fruition in the end although there will be a lot of regional coverage tonight in the UK, in addition BFBS camera crew were present as well as 3 cameras from ADA TV who will incidentally be showing the service on a 30 minute clip every evening this week at midnight on ADA TV. The Daily Express were present as well as all the local press. A DVD is currently being compiled of the event which will include footage of the Wayne's Keep visit by the veterans last Saturday.

Hubby and I attended the service in Girne and have to say "well done" to all those involved in making this such a special day for all the veterans who attended. We found it very moving and have to say I had a tear in my eye watching the attending veterans laying their wreaths with such pride. We viewed the inscribed memorial after the service and have to say it is a fitting tribute to all those who lost their lives.

| Brian. The thanks should go to you and the team for the excellent organisation. I think the friends and relatives of the fallen will have been extremely proud of the new memorial and the whole ceremony of unveiling etc. Also thanks have to be made to the KKTC authorities for making the whole event possible with closure of the road etc. On a personal view, both of us were moved by the whole ceremony and as always on Remembrance Sunday it provided an additional boost for remembering those that we know who have died elsewhere in conflicts. | What a great event, credit to all involved, it was a very moving experience. Really good to see all those vets wearing berets and ties of regiments that no longer exist, thanks Labour government and Geoff Hoon (ex- labour defence minister ) The whole thing sums up all that is good about Britain, lets try and keep it that way. Martin. |

What about the visitors and families, does anyone have any comments from them about the memorial, and how they have been received?

To a man they all seemed thrilled with the day and especially the monument. The reception afterwards was a very convivial affair with lots of cheering for the organisers. At the reception I sat with a retired major who lives in Paphos. Naturally, he has many Greek-Cypriot friends but was somewhat surprised at the petty comments by the head of the EOKA Veterans' Association.

I have just joined this web site and could do with some help!! We have been visiting n. Cyprus since 2001 and will be there again this September staying once more at the Ship Hotel. Can someone tell me where the British memorial is.? We only know the small British cemetery near the Pia Bella but having read a Brandt guide this is obviously not the right one! We particularly want to go there and pay our respects to a school friend of my husband. His name is Robert(bobby) bunton Royal Signals and was killed on Oct. 5th 1958. We would like to place a poppy cross near his name because as far as we can find out no-one from his family have ever visited n. Cyprus. many thanks bee

Not been to Girne for a year but turn right at the first roundabout on Nicosia Road and its a few yards along the road there. Just before a flower shop if I remember correctly.

fraggle - it is approaching the main roundabout at the bottom of the Lefkosa road. There is a Starling supermarket on the right hand side of the road (with parking space at rear) and it is next to that. Opposite side of the road are Mr Pound and Italiano furniture shop. Hope this helps.
