Christmas is just around the corner and we are now collecting presents for the SOS project children.

The secret santa has been done for the past 3 years but now that the SOS fundraising team have disbanded myself and Liz from Guidos will be organising this years presents.

At the moment we have 116 children age between 6 months and 16 years including 2 sets of twins and 1 set of triplets.

Please can you buy 1 extra present wrap it with a label stating girl/boy and age or if you are unable to buy something 20TL into an envelope and we will buy the.presents.

Drop off points are Guidos and Kibris Gelini bridal shop in Alsancak.

Please help us put a smile on these kids faces, without us they will be getting nothing this year.

If anyone wants any further information please call me on 0533 8673530

Teresa

P.S The sooner we get the presents in the better

Love to help - but work and live in Çatalköy. Any other drop off points ? - or how about having Botanica as a drop off point and the presents can be collected nearer christmas time? I can put them in a cupboard and they will be safe till then!

I really hate to say this but wouldn't it be a better idea to collect presents for Bayram or New Year?

Claire the presents will be given to the children sometime in the week between christmas and New Year, we are awaiting confirmation of the date from Nuket the project manager and as soon as i know i will of course post it here so that if anyone would like to attend they can. The reason we have started asking early is because both Liz and myself both work full time and we have both got trips backs to the UK planned so to get this organised nd planned we need to start collecting the gifts now rather then later.

All you need is a present, gift wrapped say the age/sex on the label and give it to one of the drop off points, or I will pick up and take to them,

Hi smithy are you anywhere near Catalkoy If so we could leave some money with our villa management company for you to pick up as we are in UK but would love to contribute or could arrange to have it dropped off at Botanica if that is easier.

I will have plenty of tissues with me on the day because i know seeing their little faces light up the tears will flow, but they will be tears of happiness knowing we have helped put smiles on their faces even for 1 day.

I live in Nicosia and dont have a a licence.

Is there anywhere I could drop off some presents?

I actually want to get myself organised as I have a 3 month old baby myself but I am interested in volunteering, or fundraising in the future, possibly after february.

Also does anyone know the situation for sending children to university? education funds? I was thinking of popping in there one day to see what could be done...

I will call you next week as I will buy some presents in Istanbul at the weekend.

If the children have any special preferences I will be happy to buy them. Otherwise I will buy both girl and boy presents.

I just want to congratulate you and everyone else who works so tirelessly for these children. My heart bled when I read the ages of some of these children. 6 months old!! What a cruel cruel worl. I cannot believe that this happens in such a small community where everyone knows each other.Surely these children arenot abandoned. And what about adoption? A relative waited many years and then ended up adopting in Turkey.

Anyway, from what I hear sos is doing a fabulous job, and I would like to contribute to this effort.

Pixie the children we are collecting for all live with their parents mainly in the back streets of Lefkosa. They are part of the SOS family strengthening programme which means that the SOS work with the familes to keep them together. These are some of the poorest of the poor and many live in such squalid conditions and without the help and support from the SOS many of these children would be given up by the parents.

In some ways these children are worse off then the ones that live in the village but if we can brighten their little lives just for one day then it is all worthwhile.

I have spent 2 hours in Deniz Plaza buying 5 presents for just one family, it was great

The older ones you can get beautiful Diaries and buy a special pen to go with them, they had Diaries with

Girl power/disney all boxed with little keys in Turkish so they will be able to read them also for all ages.

I love every minute of shopping for Children

Got to wrap them all up and and put their names on them now.

Cant wait to see their faces, what joy

If it hasn't arrived safely then at least this post takes it back to the top.

Adagirl,

for the past two years, the families met up at a local community centre in Lefcosia, where 'Santa' was there to give out all the presents. It is quite a private thing, as only the children who are to receive the presents are present, so to speak.

Sheila i will collect everything that Liz has this saturday, the presents will be put into big santa sacks and each child is called up one by one to collect their gift so if you just label each present with the childs name that will be fine.

Adagirl the children are the same as any other children some are shy and some are very forward but they are all excited. The whole thing will be very casual and lots of fun, they dont feel like they are on show they are just so in awe of everything around them. You have to remember the difference between these children and the actual village children, some of them have never opened a present in their liives.

I cant wait to see their little faces what joy that will be,

Teresa Naj From cutting rooms want her 3 children to buy out of their own pocket money a present each

for 3 children so if you have another 3 names perhaps older children around 8/9/10 then they can choose themselves and feel good that they have contributed to others

Sheila

I will give what I have to Liz on Friday for you to collect and probably take a few more names

Teresa. I will contact you by e-mail when I arrive after the 12th, I am staying at the Pia Bella but hire a car so can get to you or Liz. I go down to the square on New Years day, it brings tears to my eyes when I see how excited the kids are when they get a present from FC. Our kids are so spoiled they want for nothing and have lovely holidays shame its not the same for all children all over the world.

Pixie,

I think Teresa's phone is at the bottom of her bag - I have tied a number of times without luck.

I might be able to get you the presents today, If my husband agrees to drive us down.

I have a small problem though. Ive hurt my right hand and my finger is swollen making it difficult to wrap the presents. I need a kind volunteer to wrap them for me.

The presents are 3 talking books and two girls tracksuits.I also bought a big bos of sweets and some small bags meaning to idstirbute the sweets amongst the children- I have the small plastic bags.

If I cant get them down to you today I will wrap them myself when the swelling goes down.

will let you know in a few hours..

Had no internet for the past few days and also because of the downtime of the board time to bring this back to the top. Nice to see that Liz is getting things delivered to her. I will be back in Cyprus on Tuesday so will see you soon Liz.

Are presents still needed ? If so what age group shall I buy for? Has any age group been given enough?I would like to buy presents for age group that needs them rather than buying for a group that may have been given plenty.

Excess Baggae for these SOS presents and gifts.

There is a limit to what Lilli, Teresa or any of us can carry.

Could I suggest that:

1] You remove any unnecessary / all packaging from your generous gifts so reducing the weight

2] If you can afford to contribute the £8.00 per Kilo excess baggage that Teresa and Lilli are also having to find please let them know and do so.

NB There is a limit to what can be engineered with the airlines for free excess as believe it or not they feel that they are cash strapped.

UK people, have a look at the light-weight gifts ie re-usable sticker books, pencils, crayons, felt tips, colouring and activity books, hair bands, novelty socks, and christmas clothing outfits.

I have bought gor Girls aged 5 to 6, hope these are still needed?

We have had a good response so far but we are still short by a long way to getting gifts for all 120 children.

We are short on things for both girls and boys between the ages of 7 - 14.

Please take the time to buy that extra gift, time is running short now and it would be nice to be able to post on here that we have reached our goal.

Teresa - I know this may sound a bit daft, but would there be any point in us buying Christmas gifts now and bringing them over when we next visit in June for the following Christmas? I realise storage may be a problem for you, but please let us know and we would be pleased to do this.

Regards.

Teresa message 107. Thanks for your reply and will certainly do this and bring presents over in June. Is there any particular age group/gender you tend to be short of? If not, will buy what I think would be suitable and hope for the best.

Just a thought, if buying presents that need batteries, it might be an idea to pop these into the present!! I remember only too well the dispointment of not being able to play with a toy because "batteries not included"!

Thought of that adagirl, those that needed batteries popped them into the box, always do that for my grandchildren nothing worse than looking at a game and not able to play with it.

Teresa remember in the blue bag there is some money in a white envelope

But, surely the moderators could do that? Or if they can't suggest it to Izzet, or if Izzet reads this, he could do it himself.

I have spent ages tonight going through everything and crossing names off my list, if anyone is still wanting to buy presents could you please consider buying for Boys age 7-13 and girls age 8-11.

I am going to buy for the 2 yr old triplet boys so we still have twin girls 6 mths and the newborn triplet boys.

If you could post on here what you intend buying then we wont double up and be left short on the others.

Many many thanks to everyone who has already dropped presents or donations off, please remember that Guidos will be closed next week so either drop them into me at the bridal shop or to Botanica if you are on the East side.

We have bought present for a boy 3-5 and a girl aged 3-5. Friends gave us money and we will buy 2 more presents tomorrow. If you can give us an name and age we will buy for a particular child if this is easier.

I have knitted 6 little cardigans ( 2 lots of 3 ) for the newborn triplets and I am knitting another set of 3 and would be happy to continue knitting if they need these items. We would be happy to buy the gifts for the triplets if no one else has done so.

We will drop the items over at the beginning of the week.

See you at the beginning of the week.

I think we need to make things a bit clearer about 'stickies'

Izzet is the only person that can make a thread 'sticky'.

Your request needs to be made directly to Izzet.

In your request you need to tell Izzet how long you want the thread to be 'sticky' and the justifications for making it 'sticky' and that is why 'moderators' can not do so on your behalf.

Izzet does not read all of the post's on this board so requesting a sticky via a post on the board is a waste of time.

I trust that clears up some misconceptions about 'stickies'

adagirl the programme has just aired on BRT will repeat again on sunday if anyone wants further info on SOS project. I have said it would be nice to have or know the gifts are on the way by the middle of next week. That will give us time to shop for the missing gifts as well as plan the party.

If anyone is coming from UK before the party which is on Dec 30th and wants to contribute to this then there is also the option to get some sweets, all the supermarkets in UK have special offers on christmas sweets.

We would also like a childrens entertainer, face painter so if anyone knows of someone who would be willing to give their time to this then please contact me.

Tara dont worry i will make sure you see the photos.

May i say the biggest Thankyou to everyone who helped in any way to make todays party special.

The kids had a fantastic time and to see the smiles on their little faces made it all so worthwhile.

For me i have seen it before but i am sure that Liz, Sheila and Hans will all have their own versions on todays events. For me the highlights have to be the triplets both sets, before we had even gone into the building the elder set of triplets came and one of them had the brightest most cheeky smile and came running up to me for a cuddle and then to get to cuddle the babies all at the same time just finished off the whole afternoon.

I cant wait to see the pictures Hans.

What a fantastic way to spend the afternoon, seeing all the happy children and babies, those little boy triplets were to die for, I fell in love with the cheeky one, so many hugs it bought tears to my eyes.

Many thanks Teresa, Liz, Sandie, Hans,Trixie I'm sure you enjoyed it as much as I did

AND I GOT TO SIT ON SATA'S KNEE ).

I bought a rubbish laptop that doesnt let me access the blue links. It does absolutely nothing.

If you put on TRNCVO I can see the pics, or it would be so nice (and my thanks to you) to leave with Liz who has my address in the UK and can send to me. Thanks so much.

I've put the first rough material as a photobook on line (due to a lack of time unsorted and not edited yet!). You'll find it here: hhtp://www.cyprusdownload.nl . Choose this link on the homepage: Secret Santa 2009: photobook 1.

Well done to Teresa and everyone who made this day special for all the children. DC thanks for sharing your photos. In the UK but have been thinking of you all day. Something like this makes you count your blessings.

Next time we are over we will bring pressies for next year.

Lilli think Guido might just have a little to say if you had brought one of the children back with you. Glad you managed to get some relaxation time away from the buisness and the pooches.

Hans I think it is a laptop thing. Before I had a Toshiba now this useless Acer.

I have tried everything. It will not accept blue links.

Well done to all involved the kids faces are a picture looking at Santa. The picture of the little boy sitting on the floor with his new car really tells the story.

Well done again everyone involved. Sorry I couldn't be there but always next year.
