My dearest friends have put up a shed in their garden.Their T.C neighbour,an oldish lady, has objected, apparently she objects to everything. It do.es not obstruct her view,it is under a window which is never opened, and,if it was does not obstruct her view. But she is related to the mayor. So far,the local authority has taped the shed with red and white warning tape.AND then turned off their water supply.

A solicitors phone call changed this.

But what can my friends do?They have contacted Planning Dept.and no permission is required for a shed.

Police have been, and not objected.Who is in charge here?

Have local authority the right to force my friends to dismantle shed?AND they are serious about leaving the island!!

Any suggestions welcome.

All the above is true EXCEPT the bit about us leaving the island! It'll take more than one old lady & the Beledeyesie to get rid of me! We'll have a new Mayor one day soon & the tables may well turn!

Thanks for the support though Mike!

I bet you are all over 65 and still keep the colonial spirit alive? Well, get a grip YOU are NOT in charge of this country, nor are you in any way superior!!! Go and live in South Africra with an electric fence to keep you safe fom the "locals"

Who is in charge of this country I wonder??

Why should this family move the shed if it isn't obstructing anyone's view.

It has red tape around it and they are not allowed to break it ..... THAT is part of the problem Adagirl. The Government rules say one thing, the local Beledir says ' lets keep auntie happy' and try to make a few bob to boot. There is no LEGAL necessity for them to move the shed. It is within all statutes and guidelines. BTW You're not related to the local mayor aswell are you?

Adagirl Msg 4 & 5

The shed can't be seen by this neighbour unless she leans right out over her balcony and turns her head round!!!

I am 57 (not over 65) and wouldn't dream of keeping any colonial spirit alive! I love this country and want to end my days here. I get on very very well with ALL my neighbours (apart from this one who doesn't like ANYBODY) Cypriot, turkish & british. I do not consider myself superior to anyone apart from rude folk that jump to conclusions without reading the facts first!

You could, of course, offer your TC neighbour 'baksheesh' if she will withdraw her complaint - this is Cyprus, remember!
